Summary

First of My Kind is the story of Nathan Myers, a Missouri farm boy who, through a chain of events that happens halfway across the galaxy, finds his way from the seat of his Grandfather's tractor to the command of a starship from a lost super race.

Nathan will tell you in his own words about the life and death struggles he encounters on his journey. He will tell you about the humor, peril, and pain of his galactic education. Even with the help of an eccentric A.I. and the most unlikely of allies, he still finds it easy to lose his humanity to the horrors and injustice of a galaxy no one could have imagined.

Action packed

Good story, a little slow in the first few chapters. Not an overly complicated. However, it’s an action packed and a fun listen.

Refreshing Space Opera, Beautifully Written

I don't know this author or his work, but having listened to this, I'll actively seek him out. The story - oddly reminiscent of Keith Laumer's Galactic Odyssey, while still being quite original - is a simple 'boy from hick planet makes good' piece of work, but the writing is a delight - clever, witty, interesting and absorbing, and peopled with fascinating characters, and it has a momentum that carries it through the whole 18 hour listen.

Lovely stuff! Highly recommended.

Epic Space Opera

Absolutely brilliant story, great initial build up to get to know the MC, before boom aliens. Alien races that are not just humans with different skin colours, antennas or pointed ears. Combat is quick paced and brutal, great comedy and banter.

What a great new space opera!

Really enjoyed this book, a good lead character with plenty going on. Very much looking forward to the next book.

Too cheesy to be taken seriously

So, I actually enjoyed this, more than I'm prepared to admit publicly! The way it's been written is painful though, almost like a story a teenager would write - there was even the "Tell me more about this earth custom you call kissing" scene. It's not believable in anyway. At one point the main character says he's been travelling for a year and I'd assumed it had happened in a week or so!
I might ready the second one, but only if it's free!

Classic space opera

So overall the book was good has a classic space opera feel to it with plenty of space battles, the narrator also did a spot on job as well, however the characters sense of morales made the book a lot less enjoyable he starts out shuddering at using a gun to hurt another being and goes to committing mass murder and killing enemies who have surrendered already due to this i am removing 3 stars.

Fun listening

Let’s be fair, this was never intended to be Stranger in a Strange Land or Dune. It is fun easy listening for space opera fans and in that it achieves its objective.
Also has a good narration that enhances the style.

Entertaining

An entertaining story. Not rich in science, nor seat of your pants. Time passing.
