Summary
A breakneck adventure for the Serenity crew in the seventh original novel tying into the beloved Firefly series from creator Joss Whedon
A simple job
Serenity is bound for the planet Kerry with a hold full of sealed unidentified cargo for the planet’s highest-ranking nobleman. The duke is a surprisingly genial man whose court brings all the fanciness and fun of Persephone’s high society but little of the pretension—and, most importantly, he’s got the promise of more work.
Some fine hospitality
Obliged to stick around while Inara is with a client—and hoping to score future employment—the crew settles in. The liquor flows freely at court, and there’s food, entertainment, and comfortable lodgings to enjoy. Everyone is thrilled but Zoë. Her gut says something is off.
A vicious massacre
When the duke’s estate is attacked in the middle of the night, Mal sends Serenity to safety while he and Zoë investigate. What they find turns the whole story of Kerry upside-down. Revolution is brewing, and each of them will have to decide where to make their stand, even if it lands them on opposite sides …

Just, perfect.
What can I say? Every single one of these audiobooks is so visual in descriptors that you can actually see Mal and the gang playing out the story like your own private theatre.
The characterisation of our most beloved crew is honestly perfection. Every subtle (and the not so subtle) reference to the show from the classic 'I'm trying not to punch you' Mal smile, to Rivers cryptic babbling to every Mandarin curse flung out to the verse... it's just so..... Firefly! I don't know what else to say. It's the Season 2 we were all so brutally denied. Thank you so much to every writer, publisher and to James Anderson Foster narrator for bringing these stories to life.
On that note - if James ever tries quit or get replaced, so help me there'll be a riot. His performance of every single character is tone, inflection and quirk perfect. Incredibly, he even manages to sound EXACTLY like Mal, Jayne and Book. Honestly, just give the man every raise he ever asks for - please!!

Firefly ultimate, superb.
This is the best Firefly story ever!!!, including all that has ever been written for print and TV.
There are fine nuances in the story around the plot line, the right amount of jargon and hesitation in the crews communication and a lot of “between the lines” communication and body language that you would normally convey better in the TV show.
The job of the narrator could not have been done better, thanks James Anderson Foster.
This will have to be followed up by the author.

audio awful
I don't know whats wrong with this audiobook. it has the same narrator as all the others but it sounds like it's slowed down or something his tone is really deep and it sounds just weird and awful

Getting boring now
I don’t know about anybody else but I’m getting sick of the stories in these books revolving around saving a town of downtrodden peasants, and they’ve already announced the next book in the series will be doing it too.
Please bring back James Lovegrove to save the books from tedium

Reads like fan fiction
I enjoyed most of the rest of the series to greater or lesser degrees. This one is just too darn wholesome! It lacks the bite, the bitter undercurrents. Everyone gets along just fine, the foreshadowing is too heavy-handed, and most of those who are not crew, are just bristlingly shiny.

Zoe: In my dreams, I pulled the trigger
The new author at the helm for this installment is clearly a diehard Browncoat because she did an excellent job in capturing the crew dynamic and referencing events and nuggets from the TV series.
That, combined with James Anderson Foster’s insane ability to mimic all nine Firefly members
(not to mention his ability to curse fluently in Chinese) made this slip comfortably back into the verse, However, this particular book feels a little too much like fan-fic, where those unfamiliar with the series won’t appreciate or enjoy the many callbacks.
I’m not sure why the cover art features Simon and Kaylie; the main characters here are Mal, Zoe, and Jayne with Inara, Simon, Kaylie, Sheppard Book, Wash and River playing fairly small parts in the tale.
The plot travels a familiar path of old trouble in new locations as ghosts from Mal and Zoe’s past clash with choices in the present. Some of my favorite parts involved Zoe’s unflappably dry banter against her Captain’s snark and bark. And the thing with the thorns was engagingly, horrifyingly written.
While I enjoyed the story, it did feel a little lacking in action and energy as everything happens at a distance from the Firefly crew. Death, while voluminous, is all of the redshirt variety. Finally, I found the resolution of the storyline’s main conflict entirely unrealistic, especially with how things ended with the big-bad. But, on balance, a shiny, satisfying listen.

True to the original
I enjoyed the entire experience of this Firefly adventure. The characters were true to their original counterparts and the narration was perfect. I particularly liked how both the author and the narrator got Jayne down.

Back to the show!!
This one, more than most of the previous titles in this series really returns to the feel of the show, the characters, and even the title. While I'm not sure why England did this odd planet, I find myself not caring.

Great characters put in a situation that tests their ideals, morals, and unique skills.
Firefly characters are the most diverse group of rascals held together by conflicting morals, a strong sense of the "greater-good", and a propensity to walk into the worst hornet's nests in a galxy corrupted by mankind's tendency to corript and abuse.
