Summary

From New York Times best-selling author Jon Acuff, a book for those who want relief from always starting and never being done.

Jon Acuff, sought-after speaker and consultant, is the friend who always gives you great advice. With his self-deprecating humor and charm, he has won over hundreds of thousands of followers who come to him for both encouragement and a kick in the pants. Now, after showing you how to reboot your career in his New York Times best seller Do Over, Acuff shows chronic starters how to actually finish their goals in an age of bottomless distractions and endless opportunities.

Acuff knows the reason why many writers' novels go unfinished - it's the same reason why gyms are filled in the first week of January and empty by the end of the month and why people stop learning a new language once they get past the easy parts. It's not just that people lose momentum or get distracted. People give up on projects when they fail to live up to their own high expectations and decide that if they can't do something perfectly, they won't do it at all. If you're going to finish, you have to kill perfectionism.

Drawing on his popular 30 Days of Hustle course, Acuff teaches listeners to short-circuit perfectionism and make it through to the end of a task. Whether it's by "choosing what to bomb" or "cutting a goal in half", he shows listeners how to move past "the day after perfect", get focused, and - finally - finish.

Fortunately, the ever-entertaining Jon Acuff has come to the rescue in this terrific new book. Finish identifies the many ways we sabotage our own progress and gives us powerful tools to ‘get ’er done.’ Read Jon’s book, apply its wisdom, and I guarantee you’ll cross your personal finish line - laughing all the way.” (Ken Blanchard, coauthor of The New One Minute Manager and One Minute Mentoring

One you'll be happy you started and FINISH!

Jon, Thanks for sharing your ideas, really useful, helpful and encouraging. I'm happy to recommend this to anyone who get distracted by the shiny new project before the one you're working on is finished.

Didn't Change My Life

Didn't change my life, however, the principle of getting something completed rather than perfect I frequently think back to this book.

Excellent, actionable book

An excellent, actionable book on beating perfectionism and finishing our goals. It mentions 6 points for ‘finishing’: such as cut your goal in half, make it fun, use data (to track progress...as emotions lie). Jon’s likeable personality and down to earth nature work really well in the narration. He’s quite funny, too. An enjoyable and actionable audiobook.

Brilliant

I have listened to and read multiple similar books. This is by far the best, engaging and practical and helps crystallise all the issues with effective productivity.

One of the best books I've ever finished!

This book called have been called 'How to slay Perfectionism.' because in order to get a project over the finish line, John Acuff the authour, teaches that's what you have to do. I love this book, never has a self help book had so many laugh out loud moments, it's so refreshing to have so much wit woven into a book with a fairly serious subject.
I adored the moments when John Acuff, added bonus content and went off script and just told a story to the listener.
My favourite part by far is when Acuff explains how he attempted to learn ping pong. His retelling of the story is worthy of a stand up routine.
I can't wait for John Acuff to finish his next book.

Nice style but not shockingly new info

Told in a nice way, but it does not contain a lot of shockingly new information. It does, however, get you thinking about your own goals.
