About this listen
ECPA best seller
The lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist for award-winning contemporary Christian band Tenth Avenue North shows listeners that by seeking God first and focusing on serving him, we can live daily in his will.
"Perhaps God isn't giving me the plan because He wants to be the plan."
This was the aha moment for Mike Donehey after years of wrestling with his obsession to know God's specific plans for his life. He came to the realization that waiting for absolute certainty from God before making decisions may seem uberspiritual, but it can lead to a life of intense stress, paralyzing fear, and crushing regret - just the opposite of the freedom granted to those living a Christ-filled life.
"This is my story...how I gave up begging to know God's will and began to ask His life to come and change my will."
With his signature humor and relentless hunger for God, Mike will show you that discovering the Father's purpose and plan for our lives is not the shell game that we all too often make it out to be. If you're unsure what to do next, take heart and accept the ultimate invitation: Learn to see God as the plan, not simply the formula to the plan.

“Mike has been a friend of mine for years. He is equal parts fun, wise, and kind. He says what he believes, and he believes what he says. This book is full to the brim with words from a voice I trust, because Mike lives out the gospel message without pretense and with tremendous vulnerability.” (Bob Goff, author of New York Times best sellers Love Does and Everybody, Always)
“Who is waiting for you when the road rises up and smacks you in the face, when life sneaks up and hits you from behind and knocks you to your knees? Mike Donehey realized that it was from these positions he was in the best place to reach out for God’s hand and rise up. From accidents and intentions, decadence to ascension, his life and God’s will found a place called home.” (Ken Mansfield, author, producer, and former US manager of the Beatles’ Apple Records)
“Some books are fun to read while others just hit home, but my friend Mike Donehey has a way of doing both here. He is brilliant with words; his storytelling makes you laugh out loud; and yet - with all humility - in every chapter he blindsides you with truth that spins you right into freedom. When you have all of this written by someone with the highest values and character, you end up with a resource God uses in your life. This is a must-read.” (Chuck Bomar, pastor of Colossae Church and author of Better Off Without Jesus and Serving Local Schools)

Helps define what is most important
lovely narration- you can almost see the thoughts forming. a really good listen.
Lots of good quotes- eg. God's word is a lamp unto our feet, not a floodlight for our interstate.

More than a Musician
As someone who has catalogued Tenth Avenue North as one of my favourite bands of all time, I was fully expecting to not be enlightened by this book. People are often used by God in only one capacity and viewing them beyond that context often leads to disappointment.
but having been blessed by the humility and vulnerability Mike shows in his Instagram posts I wondered if maybe he had more to offer. I was not wrong! Mike has a maturity and humility that would be better suited to a wisened plumber than a widely known and respected musician.
I hope the challenge he presents to see ourselves both as more broken and as more blessed than we ever thought possibly is as refreshing to you as it was to me.
