About this listen
Are you thinking about getting a ferret and want to make sure that you’re uber-prepared for ferret ownership?
Or maybe you already have one and you’ve realized there's actually a lot you still don’t know or understand about them.
A pet ferret can bring you years of joy, laughter, companionship, and unconditional love in weasel form. They can also bring a lot of frustration and feelings of failure if you don’t learn enough about their needs, their behaviors, and how they see the world.
This pocket guide will:
- Help you understand why they do the things they do by showing you how ferrets perceive their surroundings, and how they use their senses.
- Teach you to decode what they’re saying with their vocalizations and body language.
- Supply you with an easy laundry list of things you’ll need to get, set up, and be prepared for before bringing your new friend home (including how to ferret-proof a space).
- Tip you off with the best DIY toys and enrichment activities.
- Supply you with an easy-to-follow routine to have with your ferret.
- Teach you how to train your little friend not to bite, how to go for walks on a leash, and how to use a litter box.
This book doesn’t just tell you about ferrets, it conveys the realities of ferret ownership and teaches you what to expect and how to prepare yourself for Ferrenthood.
When we take an animal into our lives, we make a commitment to be the very best human we can be for them. With this condensed, straight-forward guide packed with essential tips and information for responsible and fulfilling ferret ownership, you'll be well on your way.

I had no idea that today’s ferrets are descendants of the European polecat. Nor was I aware that, like their big brother, the skunk, ferrets have a strong odor regardless of whether their scent glands are removed. They’re crepuscular animals. You’ll have to trust me on that one, or look it up and join the “word big-shot” club, lol.
Potties, potted plants, electrical wires - you’ve got to ferret-proof these and other items found irresistible by ferrets. But their gregarious social skills make them endearing pets. It’s clear from listening to this book that ferret owners are a special breed of people, just like their slinky little charges.
You’ll learn exactly what to get, and how to set up and prepare your home for the arrival of your ferret.
If you’re considering adding one of these intelligent, curious, and gregarious “carpet sharks” to your home, this book is definitely the one you need for all your essential ferret homework.
Nothing is left to chance, from welcoming your ferret to your home to (necessary) trips to the vet, to the finer points of bathing your weasel. Even the sad necessity of one day saying goodbye to your friend is covered, along with the warning signs that indicate he or she is ready to travel to their ancestors.
The finer points of understanding ferret behavior and even tips on training them are covered.
Even though I have no plans to add a ferret to our household any time soon, this book was an enjoyable listen and a fascinating glimpse into the world of ferrets…and their owners!
Grab a copy for the ferret lover in your life - they’ll love you for it!
