About this listen
Imperious, clever, mysterious: Maigret meets his match in the alluring form of Félicie in book 25 of the new Penguin Maigret series.
In his mind's eye he would see that slim figure in the striking clothes, those wide eyes the colour of forget-me-not, the pert nose and especially the hat, that giddy crimson bonnet perched on the top of her head with a bronze-green feather shaped like a blade stuck in it.... Félicie had given him more trouble than all the 'hard' men who had been put behind bars.

Bread and butter Maigret
A nice simple tale with lots of familiar Parisien landmarks, a bit ho-hum but oddly satisfying.
It's a pity that the narrator made Félicie sound like a 50 year old woman with a strange accent but I know that representing the accents of areas of France in English is difficult.

A more character driven story than usual.
Another casebook from Simenon about his Gallic and humane detective, Maigret. This time he is on the tail of a young woman who is entangled with murder and some shenanigans, Felicie, a determined and single minded female. Maigret quite likes her self-confident manner even if she’s a right pain in the posterior. He knows that she will lead him to the discovery of the villain. This story has a sly sense of humour which pervades the tale. Several of the regular Police team make appearances, providing our hero with that steadfast support he relies on, ensuring that teamwork is crucial to the outcome.

Prefer Others
A different style of Maigret.
This one was confusing, jumping backwards and forwards. At times I was unsure “who” was telling the story. Sometimes, Maigret was talked about in the third person, as if he was one of the suspects. A very strangely constructed narrative. Annoying and confusing. Prefer other Maigret stories.
