About this listen
Fear stalks familiar ground.
Acting DCI Rob Marshall is back in the Borders with a permanent promotion dangled in front of him – but storm clouds are gathering, with his new boss eyeing cutting Marshall’s Major Investigation Team.
When a seventeen-year-old boy is found murdered in Hawick, Marshall finds a community on the edge. As his team struggles to connect the dots, what seems like a straightforward case unravels into something far more sinister – the details echo another investigation and Marshall finds himself following a trail of secrets hidden in plain sight.
With his team's future hanging by a thread, Marshall must determine if he's hunting a copycat or just chasing shadows. But the deeper he digs, the more he realises some fears are founded in truth. With his team under threat and pressure mounting, can Marshall separate truth from deadly misdirection?
Fear of Any Kind is the seventh book in the DI Rob Marshall series, following a sharp-witted detective haunted by his past. Perfect for fans of Ian Rankin, Stuart MacBride, JD Kirk and LJ Ross.

Stunning.
The best book so far in one of the best crime series I’ve read in the past few years. Compared to the likes of JD Kirk, JM Dalgleish or David J Gatward (I love those authors) Ed James always has extra depth to his stories, the crimes and the subsequent investigations twist and turn beautifully. The battles DI Marshall has just trying to do his job and in his private life really gives you a chance to get invested in his life. All the characters, Rob’s colleagues and family, suspects and witnesses are so well written, adding even more weight to the story. A wonderful, wonderful book in a stunning series. I flipped between the ebook and audio and would highly recommend Angus King’s narration.

Another belter
Loved Angus as always, he’s a selling point for me with every audiobook I purchase. Another great story, love Rob. Just sad I’ve finished it already and will have to wait for more!

A lovely intricate novel
I have been really looking forward to this continuation of the DCI Robb Marshall books. I didn’t have a clue where this book was going and I’m certainly not going to give any spoilers. The characters by now are really well established and I love the way Ed James takes us on a journey through the towns and countryside. The one comment I would make and this is not a spoiler to say I couldn’t be a teacher for all the money in the world.

Rob Marshall at his best 👌
we find acting DCI Rob Marshall using his experience to solve a murder that seems to have links to others from years ago, this sends him along with a new DS who was dropped in from another area across and up country finding out details for their own case.
while acting DI joliene and recovering Di Callum Taylor pursue it locally, as well as the case that Detective Superintendent Ravenscroft wants solved immediately, Rob has personal problems to deal with regarding Kirsten, and both Jennifer and his half sister Cath, add this all together and we have yet another fantastic 5⭐️ read from Ed James
