Summary

This isn't another "I hate you because I secretly love you" story. Boy really does hate girl. And this isn't just a forbidden love story. This is obsession at its darkest.

I don't believe in fairy tales and Prince Charming.

I believe in fear.

He taught me how to be afraid.

We first met on a playground on a wonderful summer day. It was the first time he hurt me and it wouldn't be the last. For 10 years, he's been my tormentor and I've been his forbidden. But then he went away, and yet I was still afraid.

Now, he's back, and wants more than just my tears. You see...he thinks I sent him away so now he wants revenge...and he knows just how to get it.

Amazing

I’m supposed to hate Kieran but I can’t bring myself to do that . When you hear his backstory you will understand why he’s like he is , although it doesn’t excuse the way he treated Lake.

Just wow...

Well my emotions don't really know where to start with this book. This is an unapologetically dark read! The plot is thick and full of twists, turns, who's, what's and where's. Dysfunction is the key!
I loved the darkness of this exquisitely written book. Yeah, so you could question that these characters get away with a lot for their age... But, just go with it... This is not an autobiography!
Brilliantly narrated by Ava Erickson. Ava has a voice that just floats through your ears!

Oh.... My.... Goodness!!!!

I have gone through every book in this series like a lost person in the desert would go through bottles of water!

The start is kinda dark, the sex is raw and well explained, with lots of "scary" hurdles and antics along the way and ending with a beautiful HEA!

I REALLY DESPERATELY WANT MORE!!!

I love that this book goes back to following the original characters because they veered off for a while to their friends and family.

If you don't mind raw honesty, darker than dark history and intensity (including lots of intense sex), plus you enjoy a different type of romance to the usual white Knight and flowers, then this will knock your socks off! I love dark romances and even darker characters with an erotic touch so when I started to listen to this series I was hooked!

I've recently started downloading more from this author and I have to say that I have put them in my list of favourites! So I would be advising any "none-snowflakes" to have a listen. If the first book is too much, then please don't give up, because once love is in the air it gets sweeter..... Still intense but definitely much more loving between the characters.

I just hope and pray that this isn't the end of the story and I have more to sink my teeth into.... Or would that be my ears??? Hmmmm.... Anyway, I have fallen in love and maybe have a new obsession.

Enjoy xx

I found this book moving.

I was so surprised how addictive and moving I found this book. Great narrator and such a stirring book. I couldn’t believe what a turn on the angst and dominance.

Fear me

Really intense book gets you hooked but it’s disturbing that those are just kids so it takes the enjoyment away, still going on to listen to the next book

so emotional

Wow this book is so dark. It's all about a bully Kieran and his victim Lake, It all starts when they are very young and carries on for years until they are teenagers and Kieran starts growing feelings for Lake but he tries so hard to deny how he feels. Kieran had such a dark childhood and had no emotion but he can't stop thinking about his obsession Lake. It all starts with Kieran treating Lake so awful because he hates that he has feeling for her. I read this book a while ago and always thought it would do well as audio. If you like dark books then give this a go but if it's romance and hearts and flowers this is so not the book for you. Ava Erickson did an amazing job and brought the story to life. I look forward to the next book in the series.

Dark and intriguing.

I’ve been pondering this for a while but was reluctant to use a credit as I knew I’d either hate it or love it, and I hate returning! When I saw it was included in the Plus Catalogue I eagerly added it to my library. Sooooo glad I did. It’s full of Triggers, full of darkness, and at times a difficult listen, but it’s such a good story, with such interesting characters that the time just flew by.

Kieran is dark and dangerous and is determined to break Lake for a crime he thought she’d committed against him, that of setting him up for something he didn’t do, setting him up and having him arrested. It quickly becomes obvious to the reader that Lake didn’t do it, but not so to our villain; and make no mistake Kieran is a villain. This isn’t a story of “ hate you but I really love you so I will pull your pig-tails”, Kieran has bullied Lake in the extreme for ten years (we find out why towards the end of this book) He’s absolutely horrible to her. I’ve read reviews that say Lake is weak for not standing upto him, but I get why she doesn’t and tbh in my opinion she is actually really strong because he doesn’t break her, despite everything, she is still standing.

There is without doubt extremely questionable consent in this, with only a very tenuous thread to acceptability, but for me it was enough. For others it won’t be.

We find out some back story to Kieran, as to why he is how he is, and it’s excessively dark. Think of the worst thing that could happen to a kid outside of death, and this is possibly it! This for me explains, if not excuses, much of his behaviour.

I get why some people say the subject matter would be better suited to older characters of college age, but I don’t think it would have worked. They need to be “trapped” within their world for it to work. College kids can move too easily and as such they could escape. The inability to escape here particularly for Lake adds to the drama.

There are some great support characters, who I see get their own books later in the series. I love Sheldon, but not sure about Willow, I like Keenan, but the jury is out on Dash. I guess we will get more of their story later on.

This book ends in a cliffhanger, which I hate, and I wouldn’t have listened if I didn’t have the full series lined up. I’m not one for waiting, I have zero patience.

Ava Erickson did a great job of narration. I wish we would have had Kieran’s POV, but I see why we didn’t. We really needed some of his backstory before we start to hear his voice.

I’m moving straight into the second.
