Summary
From award-winning author David Freed, Fangs Out is the second installment in the pulse pounding Cordell Logan series.
Moments before he is executed, the man who killed Hub Walker’s daughter makes a troubling allegation: that the real murderer was Walker’s close friend, an important US defense contractor. Walker—famed Vietnam War veteran and hero-pilot—is looking to hire someone willing to hunt down information that will refute the claim and help restore his friend’s good name. Enter Cordell Logan: civilian flight instructor, would-be Buddhist, and retired military assassin.
Logan takes the job, thinking it will be a bit of a breeze, and an opportunity to rub shoulders with a living legend. But after flying down to San Diego in his beloved Cessna—the Ruptured Duck—he is swiftly pulled into a perplexing and dangerous puzzle. The deeper he digs, the murkier the waters become, and the more dangerous it gets. Who really killed Walker’s daughter, and why? Somebody doesn’t want Logan asking questions—and will stop at nothing to silence him.

Excellent book as all the others
David Freed is amazing. Went through all the books without putting them down.
I got to this one last - unfortunately it is not read by Ray Porter, as all the other ones in the series - which took time to get used to.
Keith Szarabajka is a great narrator and I enjoyed his performance, but he’s not Ray……

Can't replace Ray Porter
I'll be honest. I got bored of listening to the narration because I was spoilt by having Ray Porter narrate. Comparatively Keith is bland and just sends me to sleep. I imagine the story is good but I can't listen to it. Sorry Keith. Refund requested.

Sure it’s fine but…
Sadly I can’t listen, I’ve tried. The rating does not reflect the book nor the narrator as, well, I haven’t listened. I missed this one out as Ray Porter was so excellent in his narration of the other books and had developed the characters so well.
I did try to listen because I wanted to see the way one narrators style could change the narrative of a book. But also thought I could just listen to it as though it was a stand alone novel. I do love audiobooks, now! As I can no longer read for myself but I was reluctant to start purely because I knew that narration obviously changes every book. Creating different characters and narrative than your own mind would create when actually reading yourself.
I’m sure this book would be fine but it’s ruining my overall enjoyment. Where Porter for example, makes the main character self deprecating, witty and nice, to me, this narration makes him arrogant, conceited and just mean actually. Had I started with this narrator, had he read all the books, I’m sure I’d have enjoyed the series.
Maybe in time I’ll listen, separate it and enjoy it but not now.
