House Party Murder Rap: Two people have been targeted. Shots have been fired. Who stands to inherit? Who has the most to lose? Evangeline "Evie" Parker, Countess of Woodridge, thinks it's nothing but an accident, but then an attempt is made on her host's life. Suddenly, all the guests attending the Duke of Hetherington's house party think they are being targeted. Who will be next? Evie and her new chauffeur form an unlikely alliance to discover as much as they can before the killer can get it right.
Murder at the Tea Party: Warning: Afternoon tea with Lady Woodridge can be fatal. Evie has her hands full trying to keep the name of Woodridge free of scandal, as well as mending fences with her maid Caro. No easy task when one of her afternoon tea guests is poisoned. Is it a coincidence when another guest is found dead from poison?

Super fun period cozy mysteries
What a great start to this series. Evangeline Parker, American, a widow and a Countess arrives with her chauffeur and bodyguard at her friend the Duke of Hetherington estate only to be met with gunshots, but is she the target or the Duke, a weekend house party provides a lot of suspects for her and her chauffeur to investigate. Infidelity, inheritance and murder. A super 1920's country house mystery with excellent period details and attitudes.
After the House party affair Evie settles into life at her own estate only to become a suspect when an afternoon tea guest is poisoned. Together with Tom she endeavours to clear her name. Secrets, infidelity and pies. A great fun box set of what looks like being a fine fun series. Pearl Hewitt does a fine job with the narration although her accents slip occasionally. Highly recommended

I lovely murder mystery in the style of the golden age.
Well narrated, with some interesting historical background references, I will definitely be continuing with the series.

The worst of the American ‘cozy’ (argh) crime series I’ve heard
I don’t like to criticise books but this one was so poor I can’t refrain. The premise is good, almost original, but overall it is pretty poor. There are the usual Americanisms (store instead of shop, etc) plus some really careless geography (200 miles, from Yorkshire to London are covered in an hour - in 1920!!! Steam train! No changing at any stations), but the first book is decidedly weak, and the second was so awful I stopped listening (very rare). The British appear to be a race of aliens, and the aristocracy an extreme version of alien. The writing is poor - it is not clear when people are talking in private or with a room full of people listening in. Even the conclusion was decidedly unsatisfying. It’s even worse than the Angela Marchmont series. What a shame! I’ve learned to overlook the Americanisms in other series, but everything grated with this book. The narrator did a pretty good job, but she couldn’t make a silk purse from a sow’s ear!
