Summary
Over the centuries, anything Ronan once found pleasure in has faded away to be replaced with blood, death, and the ever-constant battle not to give in to the more savage side of his vampire nature. Every time he wakes, he questions if that day will be the one he succumbs to the beckoning darkness.
As a born hunter, Kadence has been sheltered from the world for her entire life, never allowed to step beyond the walls of her home. It's not a life she's happy with, but it's one she's come to accept. Everything changes the day her father is slaughtered by a vampire and she escapes the walls that have kept her caged.
After she's attacked by the monster responsible for killing her father, Kadence is unsure how to react when she's rescued by Ronan. Though raised to hate vampires, she finds herself irresistibly drawn to Ronan as she slowly begins to realize that everything she's been taught over the years may not be true. Now, she must decide what she wants more; Ronan, her family, or the elusive freedom she's finally found.
Contains mature themes.

Loved it!
This was a break from my usual crime thrillers and I was not disappointed! I blooming loved it!
In a world of Vampires and Vampire Hunters, there are different types of vampires, those who fight their nature to be good and protect humankind and those who embrace the evil, blood sucking monster in them. There's an origin story as to how they came to exist, how they differ and how to tell the difference, which I really liked.
At the forefront, a love story between the male leader of the vampires, Ronan, and a female from a hunter group, Cadence.
They are fighting for the same side, but the Hunters don't realise and see the Vampire group as the bloodsucking their believe all vampires to be. Cadence helps to bridge that gap to bring them together to fight a common enemy, but it's not without its challenges.
The narration was excellent and very well paced. Performative but not OTT and easy to tell the characters apart.
Overall, a really enjoyable story and definitely one I will recommend, especially to anyone who loved Charlaine Harris's True Blood series.

Not bad
Not a bad story just thought it was slightly lacking maturity. I am not sure i will be listening to next in the series. If you want a story to pass some time and like a vampire romance of sorts then fine but if you are looking for anything a bit in-depth....nah It’s not the best out there - sorry

🌻An ok story!🌻
🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻V from Kansas🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
When I was trying to figure out how I felt about this book, all I could could come up with is that it was ok.
The writing wasn’t that impressive, the characters were one dimensional and the plot was predictable and didn’t hold my interest. In addition, the narrator’s voice definitely didn’t fit the “bad ass vampires “ that the author was trying to sell.
There is some violence but, it’s not over-the-top and there is some sex but, not that often and not all that dirty.
This story seemed to be a poor imitation of the BDB blended with the Carpathian novels.

Love/Hate Relationship
I loved this story....... and I especially love any male character with an Irish accent, so I was left conflicting emotions about this audiobook. I read the book before listening to the audio version and although I would rate the book itself 5 stars, I was so damn disappointed with the audio performance. But!!!!! Let me be clear about that point. Holly Jackson does a great job with the female roles and I enjoyed that part of her narration. Unfortunately, the male characters all sounded like emotionless robot cyborgs with sparce hints of an Irish accent sprinkled here and there. There was a serious lack of tone, inflection and cadence to the dialog. It struck me as so strange that the female character(s) were so vibrant and believable while the male characters were portrayed in a flat monotone voice. I guarantee that if this series was re-recorded (only the male roles) with a voice actor who has a natural Irish accent or can pull one off convincingly, this series would be even more popular. Maybe we can convince the powers that be to make it happen. Fingers crossed.

A little slow for me
I liked this book but it was a little slow for me. There wasn’t enough steam and I really didn’t get invested into the characters. Not going to continue to the next book.

The narrator kills it!
I just finished the road to hell series and loved it so started listening to everything Brenda K Davies has written. This story is no where near as good as the road to hell. It's a super weak and somewhat boring story. I find myself annoyed with all of the characters. But most of all, the narrator is just terrible at male voices. She sounds like a robot or a cave man when she does the male voices and it makes them sound dense or unfeeling. She did fine for the female voice. I can't continue this series because of her.

The story is ok! The narrator ruined it!
This book is ok the narrator ruined it! I couldn’t continue listening I had to exchange this book for another. Please don’t use the narrator again, she made the main character sound lazy.

Hard to listen to
The narrator was not the best and made it hard to listen. I feel as though the story stopped abruptly without closure so there will be another installment. Just okay

I havent finished the book yet
I havent finished listening to the book yet but the narration is great and this author is one of my favorites she writes under another name as well called Erica Stevens which is a pen name she has and I absolutely love her captive series written as Erica Steven's and it's a Fantastic series so if that is anything to go by this should be worth a try. I have only heard good things about this series this far as she just released book 2 on audible as well this month!:)

While I liked the story
I can’t say the same about the narrator. Normally, I’m not super picky about the narrators voice and inflection but this time ... I can say it was too robotic and detracted from the story enough to lessen my overall experience.
