About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
Sophie used to adore everything about Christmas. Hot chocolate and velvet bows, mistletoe and mince pies.
Until the December her fiancé jilted her.
Since then, Sophie opened Sunnyside Hotel, a quaint guesthouse nestled deep in the Cumbrian countryside.
And, though it might be winter at Sunnyside, it’s never Christmas.
Marketing her hotel to those who wish to avoid the festivities, Sophie is busy preparing for a season full of joy and laughter, but without bells and whistles.
Yet, as she finds herself growing closer to her gorgeous neighbour, Brody, her heart begins to melt.
Will this Christmas bring the touch of magic Sophie needs to give love another chance?

Lovely Christmas escapism with a dash of reality
Once again, Phillipa delivers a heart-warming Christmas read with a twist, and set in the glorious Lake District. It helped that I was away on a short break whilst listening this year, and we were treated to snow in West Yorkshire which just added to the festive tone.
The story offers a different view of Christmas and I loved the focus on the lives of those involved alongside the main characters -and the reality of what Christmas can mean to different people for different reasons.
As always, the scene setting was expertly done; previous characters from the area in earlier books were dropped in at appropriate times, and the new main characters felt rounded, real and likeable. Including the animals! As always with Phillipa's books, there was a bit of education - despite having had a dog for 11 years (and dogs growing up), I had no idea that mistletoe was poisonous for them!
The only slight issue was the curious accent of the Italian guy from the narrator who seemed to wander between italian and perfect English!
A lovely way to kick start my Christmas spirt.

An easy listen
Easy listen around Christmas theme. Dreadful regional accents especially the Scottish one! It absolutely grated on me.
