Richard Bolitho is a warm and human characters brought alive by this historical novel he is well written

A great naval yarn with is a part of a long sequence. Well worth reading the others first. Kent clearly knows the sea and its seasons well his characters are strong and well written. I would highly recommend this book

Deck there!

Very enjoyable, well read and a cracking story. You can taste the sea salt and hear the cannons bark. Drop anchor, break out the rum and sponge down your barrel. Hussar!

I've been

enjoying these books immensely, the battle scenes are brutal. Why did Dick's wife have to die?not necessary as far as I can tell, And at last I can listen to the narrator without cringin' every 5 minutes.

A rattling good yarn

Never a dull moment. Well written and characters well drawn. Too bloody though I thought.

A smashing book

A good old yarn of sea warfare, much to keep the listener entertained, a tale of hardy folk.

Authentic and realistic.

Not a total fan of this genre, however, I soon got into it, and then had to stick with it to the end!

A Banging Triumph!

I have been binging on this series but this will be my last for a little while, after a few in succession the formula becomes a little more obvious. However, this is an absolute cracker with tons of action as Bolitho comes up against a particularly cunning enemy, This really has it all with huge battles, intriguing tactics, some of the characters we've come to love and it wouldn't be Bolitho without an element of tragedy.

Michael Jayston is a joy to listen to as he voices the stern Bolitho, portly rear admirals, the massive presence of Allday and a myriad others in a performance that simply purrs with quality.

This one also sees the return of one or two old characters with huge effects and completes a couple of major story arcs that have run in and out the series. If you are wondering if it is worth reading just one more for now . . . the answer is most emphatically YES!

Kent’s Standout novel

I was genuinely in bits, in several parts of this book. The way Bolitho all the various twists and turns and his ability to remain noble and just, is just incredible
