About this listen

Twenty-five years ago HMS Terrapin was part of a crack hunter/killer group in the Battle of the Atlantic. Now she is working out her last commission in the Gulf of Thailand.

To Lieutenant-Commander Standish, the frigate seems to mark the end of his hopes of a career in the navy. Then a new captain arrives, a man driven by an old-fashioned, almost obsessive patriotism. And under his stubborn leadership, Standish and the crew discover a long-forgotten unity of purpose.

A great story with the relationships and stife feeling more realistic to me than the usual one off navel story. Some real nailbiting moments and a good ending, would highly recommend.

A perfect end

Well researched, great characters, gripping and emotional story. Exceptionally well narrated - the story was really brought to life.

Brilliant yarn, brilliantly read

Still a lot of the Reeman fundamentals, (angst with senior officers, unreliable wife and the ‘forbidden’love interest) but unlike a lot of his other work it wasn’t as easy to predict the storyline.
A lot of unanswered questions left (not a bad thing) at the very condensed ending(not always a good thing), but overall I felt it difficult to stop listening.

Different plot made a nice change

Again Reeman pulls off another great ripping yarn, picking apart his characters in his inimitable way!

brilliant book with emotional moments throughout, a fitting tribute to the old Royal Navy and the brave men who served.

loved it.

Brilliant story, really well told. Gripping plot. Might help the reader not familiar with Jackspeak if some of the abbreviations and acronyms were soelled out before the story was told. Full marks to the narrator.

Brilliant tale of the RN in the South China Sea in the 1970s

Once again Reeman pans out a story with a completely unbelievable and unnecessary love interest. Also the independent actions by the main character would not have been allowed to happen, if he indeed would have been allowed another command. Disappointing!

Spoiled by ludicrous love story!
