Summary
Mehr is a girl trapped between two cultures. Her father comes from the ruling classes of the empire but her mother's people were outcasts, Amrithi nomads who worshipped the spirits of the sands. Caught one night performing these forbidden rites, Mehr is brought to the attention of the Emperor's most feared mystics, who force her into their service by way of an arranged marriage.
She discovers that her new husband is a mysterious, enslaved Amrithi with abilities like her own: together they must use every ounce of cunning, power and will they possess to resist the order's cruel agenda - and should they fail, the spirits themselves may awaken seeking vengeance....

Refreshing
I bought this book months ago and forgot about it. So I was pleasantly surprised when I found the book and started reading Arwa’s journey makes for a riveting story and left me with a desire to pick up the sequel.
Narration was well done.

loved it!
Simply a beautiful tale. I binge listened to this, her niavity was a little annoying in the beginning; running around acting like her actions would have no consequence. The protagonist is headstrong, and although a little annoying in the beginning it served her well for the majority of the book. I also appreciate that the romance didn't leave me conflicted; she got to keep every part of herself and still find love.

A tad repetitive
Interesting premise and a insight into mysticism. However, the main character's internal thoughts are repetitive. I thought some of her insecurities could be explained in other ways.

Not Bad
I found this book quite hard to get into. The many names seemed to sound similar, which was initially confusing.
However, once past the beginning, I began to warm to the story which
revolves around a young noblewoman, Mehr, who is caught between two cultures; Mehr is forced into marriage to Amun, who turns out to be one of her race, an Amrithi and a mystic. Amun, too, was forced to marry Mehr so that they could dance the rite of the bound, a dance that warps the dreams of the sleeping gods to fulfil the prayers of the mystics, thus maintaining and expanding the empire.
I did quite enjoy this book, but as to following the storyline on, I do not think I enjoyed it to that extent.
