About this listen
Take one quiet Yorkshire Village, add a measure of mystery, a sprinkling of scandal and Kate Shackleton - amateur sleuth extraordinaire!
Bridgestead is a quiet village: a babbling brook, rolling hills and a working mill at its heart. Pretty and remote, nothing exceptional happens...except for the day when Joshua Braithwaite goes missing in dramatic circumstances, never to be heard of again.
Now Joshua's daughter is getting married and wants one last attempt at finding her father. Has he run off with his mistress, or was he murdered for his mounting coffers? Kate Shackleton has always loved solving puzzles. So who better to get to the bottom of Joshua's mysterious disappearance? But as Kate taps in to the lives of the Bridgestead dwellers, she opens cracks that some would kill to keep closed....

Glad I tried this author's work!
I enjoyed the clever story, the social history and the excellent narration. I will download further titles in the series. I thoroughly recommend others to try them.

Rather long and boring
I've given 3 stars only because the narrator did a good job, but the story had no oomph and the characters were 2-demensional and not particularly likeable. Won't bother with any more in this series.

Cosy end enjoyable.
I really enjoyed the story and the characters. The plot had enough twists to keep in interesting but without being hard to follow. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

Excellent story
I loved this book. It had the true feeling of place and time, bringing to life the mill folk of the West Riding of Yorkshire together with a really good detective story.

A delightful story, well-narrated
I found this to be very entertaining. Plausible characters and dialogue, lots of gently-included period detail, an interesting location, Kate's character developing as the story progressed, and we're allowed to figure things out as Kate does. Excellent narration. Highly recommend if you want a cosy period detective story.

An enjoyable read/listen.
First time I have listened to Francis Brody , enjoyed this and will download the next .I liked the humour and Kate's healthy cynicism when dealing with the considerable sexism and patronising attitude from most of the other characters. Very much of the time .
Good narration, kept me interested.

Delightful and intriguing
If you could sum up Dying in the Wool in three words, what would they be?
Delightful, intriguing, welcoming
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dying in the Wool?
The graphic death of one of the characters - a sudden, unexpected hard edge to a deceptively comfortable tale up to that point.
What about Sandra Hunt’s performance did you like?
Soft but authentic Yorkshire accents, with numerous pertinent Yorkshire idioms and phrases thrown in (although I suppose that was down to the author rather than the narrator). A most enjoyable listen.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really - the story was more Rolling Hills than Peaks & Troughs - no overpoweringly emotional scenes that I can recall.
Any additional comments?
Dying in the Wool is the 1st of Frances Brody's "Kate Shackleton Mysteries" ... I've already bought No.2 in the series!
