Summary

Dragon’s Envoy David Slinger, Em, and their friends continue to face new challenges and opportunities. But with new opportunities, old rivals and animosities return. They must also remain vigilant to the growing threat of the dark priests and their thirst for power. It seems very few can be trusted, as everyone has their own agenda.

As Slinger’s and Em’s power and influence grow, so does their list of enemies. The dark priests have taken a personal interest in them. The dark priests’ influence and power are on the rise. When they draw first blood, Slinger and Em take a personal interest in their misery, vowing to visit retribution upon them. But have they underestimated the dark priests’ strength? Slinger and Em need to gather allies to meet the threat, as it seems not even kings are safe from their reach. As they meet each new threat, Slinger grows toward becoming a Dragon’s Mage.

Great Book!

This is a great read! We finally get a satisfying ending to this story! However, I do hope we get more in the future as there are still some threads to be wrapped up. If you have read the first book in this series then I recommend this one. If not, then you definitely need to read the first one to understand what is going on in this book. Happy reading!

There was to much magic going on

It was difficult with all the murders going on who was good and who was bad. It was hard to follow the story. The narration was really very well done

Complete Puppet

Slight spoiler

I like the story but it has one of the most annoying uses of plot armor. The MC uses getting betrayed regularly as a cue to change things up a bit without learning anything. He allows himself to get betrayed and forced to act against nobles who have been doing the same thing. And then he just works for them again just giving them fewer benefits. It got annoying that he defended them and their powers after so many betrayals.

And then there's the whole just taking orders from any royal that talks to him. Dark priests were again just plot armor to make his ridiculous responses to things and people seem sensible. He is SOOO dragged along it's ridiculous. The later part of the story doesn't even make sense. He inserts himself into more drama in the same position simply by choice. He loves being royalty's dog. I dropped off a star towards the end because of how hacky it got. It was charming at first but towards the end it's like having a 5 yr old with a good grasp of English write a story. That was the level of depth and nuance there is.

Overall, as it goes along, the story becomes less about him and more about him following the whims of other people, mostly royalty, while getting weirdly involved with a fully grown baby dragon. It's weird with how a 13 yr old finding a dragon egg with an adult in it. Then that grows over the years into what is implied to be a romantic relationship. At some point it seemed like the story was eating it's own tail going in circles. There is like really 2 things that happen. Dark priests go after place through royal and he goes after them over and over. It's so vague, there's just dark priests who I assume just spawn in some evil land or something endlessly. Cause there is no explanation of where they come from and why their have seemingly unending numbers.

Superman flattens everybody he doesn't like

I don't think I've ever read a book without a plot before. Mage with superpowers just squishes all the dark mages who make no attempt to counter his powers in any way.

Even negative events provide no tension, protagonist just gets smacked somehow, and recovers over months or years (a chapter).

there's no foreshadowing of anything. No struggle to figure something out. just a series of scenes using superpowers to flatten anybody in the way while coming upon something he wasn't expecting.

travel here? oh the ruler was impersonated by dark mages, flatten them all.

travel there? yeah, there's a dark mage army, wander around killing the dark mages and recruit the rest of the army.

dialog is great. there's just no meat to the story. nothing to expect, and nothing to try to figure out, you just read until the protagonist gets smacked with the knowledge hammer. no real struggles, the protagonist just occasionally gets knocked unconscious in a way nobody knew was possible, and you read him slowly waking up while the dragon explains she didn't know it could happen, but apparently it did.

Less than thrilled, but I have faith in the Author

James Haddock, this story of yours held such promise, but you rushed it. I would hope one of your fans might make a fan fiction piece from your story. The 12 year old grew up too fast and had too much power, too quickly. "Dragon's Envoy and Dragon's Mage" really should be one book, or bundled as a single set. Here I am telling you what to do without "any skin in the game." 🤔

Good story but….

Okay this is a good story overall but…. The narrator made me facepalm with several pronunciations such as guidon or archmage. I cringed every time I heard words/terms mispronounced. Made the listen less enjoyable bit still a good book.
