Great book and narration!
I enjoyed this book, and so far I'm really enjoying the series also(currently listening to book 3). I'm a sucker for dragon books to be honest. I love how descriptive everything is and a lot of scenes and characters are easy to picture while listening. The narration is on point also, with a good range of voices and emotions. It makes it that much easier to immerse myself in the world. The characters feel very real and complex, and what little politics it goes over is simple(thankfully).
I only had a couple things that I found a bit irksome. First, the foreshadowing was pretty heavy handed, so the latter half of the book was pretty predictable(and a bit infuriating waiting for them to finally realize who the big bad is). Also, the romance felt a bit...maybe not quite forced, but definitely rushed. The main characters are told by others that they're obviously in love, more than we really get to see it develop. But, it is a fairly short book so that's probably why. Overall, I still really enjoyed it and am looking forward to finishing the series.
I received a free copy of this book, and just wanted to share my honest thoughts on it.

YA fantasy Mystery
Where does Dragon's Curse rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This book was very much not what I expected but none the less i found it very Interesting. That said there is so much to like here. Great characters like Shannon , a strong female lead and so much good humor including what may be the world's first double act of this variety!Gnaw is superb . I think the treatment of magic and the way it is linked to life force and emotion is also very well done.I do wish she had put the clues together a little faster in this book but I still enjoyed the ride. The duo's tactics and the ebb and flow of the tale are both imaginative and quite riveting. Mary Ann Weathers narrates all of the books in this series and I found her engaging .She does well in conveying the emotion involved and the highs and lows in this book as they are extremely real, it makes you feel at the right times, and keeps you there, waiting and hoping things turn out okay.
Any additional comments?
This book series is 100% going to be One of those rare series that end all too quickly leaving you feel very glad that you read it but also a little sad that it's over. This one has it all for me; a great story, great characters and some on the nail humour,Emotion and kinship The key point when listening to the latest book in this series is obviously to confirm that it delivers on the promise the first few books made and this one does that in spades! I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.I received this title for free in exchange for an unbiased review. As always this is my honest opinion .

Not your normal dragon story.
H. L. Burke has written the characters very well, I especially like main character’s banter Mary Ann Weathers adds to this giving the characters life with their great narration and unique voices. The story is well written and paced, it is engaging from start to finish and is rather charming to boot.
This was well worth listening to and I would be interested in finding out what happens next in the character’s lives.

3.5* - charming story, okay narration
Any additional comments?
I liked this story - it was written for an audience considerably younger than myself, but I found it charming nevertheless. It's the first book in a series, but it's not written with a suspenseful cliffhanger that can sometimes frustrate readers.
I'm less enthusiastic about the narration. It's a personal, very subjective opinion - but I really, really, really don't enjoy when narrators exaggerate their voices for characters of opposite genders. It turns a flowing story into a melodramatic farce when those characters are voiced. I'm not actually as grumpy as that sounds, but it's a serious peeve. I liked the story but I will not go out and purchase an audiobook where the narration of the other gender sounds fake and ridiculous. I like the story enough that I'd be willing to read a written copy of the next installment, but the narration simply isn't compelling when voices are exaggerated. It's much more effective (in my opinion) to change the tone of voice a little bit and change the texture or timbre to make the voice sound less feminine. I'm sure that I don't speak for all audiobook listeners! But I think that there may be one or two other audiobook fans who maybe feel like I do about this particular peeve.

This is my first novel by H L BURKE and it was extreamly well written.
Mary Ann Weathers did an ok job, unfortunately there were a few times I felt the Voice didn't match what "I" perceived what it should of been.
This great little story of an enchanted dragon and a very unique friendship between a women and the dragon and magic. Clean no language issues or sex.

A clean Fantasy book for all.
Any additional comments?
I was drawn into the book from the beginning and as the story progressed I thought this is really good. However, I found the characters to be slow to figure things out especially when all the evidence was right in front of them. I figured it out earlier on in the book so I expected them to solve it quite quickly since magic is the thing they studied. Shannon didn't even solve it when the culprit screamed something that incriminated them. She had to say it a few times before it finally clicked. That is why I gave it three stars. There were plenty of times where clues were given into who it could have been yet they did not think of this person. I found this really frustrating since I really liked the story and the characters.
I would still recommend the book/audio book and I am looking forward to book 2.

A fun beginning to a series
~Disclaimer: I received a free audiobook code for this book~
I enjoyed this book so much that my first step after reading/listening to it was to borrow the sequel from kindle unlimited.
The main character is decently characterized and likeable. She has her own motivations and drives and while she does have some damsel in distress moments....they aren't a huge part of the story.
I honestly have liked pretty much everything I've read/listened to by this author. They create interesting worlds and likeable characters.
The narrator did a solid job giving emotion to the writing. Would listen to this narrator again. :)
