Gaining control over emotions

I notice that when I text someone I am constantly refreshing my phone to see if they have responded or if I post something on social media, anxiously awaiting to see who has noticed and might comment. In listening to this book, I for sure have realized my attachment style is causing problems with my relationships and myself as I am putting myself in a tizzy. It's been like I am caught in a never-ending cycle of attachment-related anxiety and I did not know how to break free. So I am very happy that I was able to listen to this book as the author has taught me how to discover how to gain back control over my emotions and fears. Instead of feeling like a prisoner, it showed me how to break free.

As I went through the book, it was easy to understand that in my past relationships, I was the same way and it played a significant role in why those relationships did not work out. Enough about the past though. What I realized is I need to fix myself before I can expect to be happy in my relationships and stop projecting my problems onto my partner. I do not have to change who I am but change instead how I think about myself and think of myself as an empowered person who is confident. What's nice is there are interactive worksheets and customized journal pages that allow me to actually apply what I am learning. It's nice to look at them and see the progress I am making. Each day is a new day and I am happy that I have the tools to help myself feel secure in myself and my relationship.

This was new to me!

I had never heard about this particular type of classifications or style of personality traits that help define us. This was something that I had not heard of fully before. To learn about attachment styles terms like Anxious, Avoidant etc, reeled me into a space that I had not explored. This book was VERY helpful in me learning more and identifying where I fit in.

Highly Recommend!

I really enjoyed this book - the narration is well done and there is so much good information. I liked the information about journaling - especially the suggestion to use prompts since I never seem to know how to get started with journaling. I also found the quizzes very helpful. I appreciate the PDF being included too! I highly recommend this book to everyone who wants to discover more about themselves and why they are the way they are in relationships.

Work through your issues

Attachment theory is a psychological framework that explains how our early childhood experiences shape our relationships in adulthood. Our attachment style is determined by the way our caregivers responded to our needs when we were young. Securely attached individuals feel confident and loved, while those with insecure attachment styles (anxious or avoidant) often struggle with self-esteem issues and difficulty trusting and connecting with others. I loved that this book helps you figure your attachment style out and then know how to manage yourself so that you show up better in your relationships. Highly recommended.
