Gwen Franklin is looking forward to spending her retirement drinking her favorite coffee and reading mystery novels. Those peaceful plans are brought to heel by her best friend, Nora. This was okay but I struggled to connect with the characters. I just didn't like the way the best friend (Nora) treated people and blew hot and cold towards them. It was a bit like how did she think she was going to run a dog walking business without interacting with the dogs and the other partner was allergic to them. She was even telling the police what to do at a crime scene. I know she was rich but still. Don't get me wrong there was some funny moments and it did give me something to listen. I am not sure Gwen would have made it as a teacher as she even let her best friend run over her. Although she did channel Agatha Christie and out smart the killer, who I had guessed. The mystery was also slightly lacking, in the fact that everybody thought Nora was the intended target but then just carried on as normal and she was never really a suspect because she just wouldn't have let them arrest her.

Retiring from teaching hasn't given Gwen a lot of money to play with but plenty of time on her hands. Which is why her best friend talks her into starting up a dog walking service, despite her being allergic to dogs. They hire an ex student to do the bulk of the work but before they can deliver but a few leaflets they return to Nora's apartment to find a neighbour dead in her kitchen. Gossip about the death spreads quickly and soon all Nora's ex step children start coming out of the wood work but could one of them really be trying to kill her off? Can they run a dog walking service and a detective agency and find out?
I liked the narrator. She made the story easy to follow by giving each character there own voice.
