A Captivating Short Story!
I am already a fan of Ms Fox's writing style and this short story didn't let me down. It is written with the same level of detail and care as her full novels and I loved it; I found myself on the edge of my seat with tension (and a wee bit of fear), tears trailed down my cheeks with emotion but there were enough chuckle moments to balance it all out nicely. No hunky Sheriff Ellis in this story but Lucy Verity's gorgeous pet skunk and ghostly gangster Frankie have their roles to play in this tale I'm happy to say.
I downloaded the narration too and once again enjoyed being whisked away to Sugarland by Tavia Gilbert's performance - fabulous!
The only reason I rated this 4 stars not 5 was down to the length Vs price but I worry that I'm doing the story a disservice - it really is 5 star quality!

Ho-hum..
This was rather silly but enjoyable. The best thing it had going for it was the narrator. Tavia Gilbert is one of the best female narrators. However, I wouldn't read any more of this series. I would have to be 12 to really find it worth reading more by Angie Fox.

5 Stars
5 Stars. Dog Gone Ghost is book 4.5 in the Southern Ghost Hunter Mysteries series. This is a cozy mystery told in 1st person POV for main character Verity Long. This book is a quick read/listen at only 53 pages or 1 hour and 10 minutes.
The series is about a woman named Verity who unknowingly cleans out a man named Frankie's ashes from an old vase looking jar into her rosebushes and it traps his ghost on her property allowing him to only leave when Verity takes his urn off the property. The ghost, Frankie, shows himself to her and so begins her ability to see ghosts.
In this book, Verity gets a ghost hunting job at the local animal shelter. Someone has been letting all of the animals out of their cages at night and a shelter worked offered Verity a trade. She will help leash train Verity's pet skunk, Lucy, if Verity will get to the bottom of the animal escapes at the shelter. Things take a turn when Verity sees the ghost who is causing the trouble and recognizes him as a nine year old boy, named Parker, who went missing 10 years prior. Parker's faithful dog, Bailey, has recently died and Parker is searching for her everywhere. Verity, Frankie, and Parker go on the search for Bailey so the boy and his dog can be reunited. In Dog Gone Ghost, Verity does something she has never done before with a spirit. Something that reaffirms her abilities and the good she can do.
I'm not sure if I would have enjoyed reading this book as much as I enjoyed listening to it. The narrator does a really good job. Her voices were distinct and clear and her pronunciation was good.
So far, I still recommend this series!

Huge Emotional Punch in Little Package
So I really love these little novellas that go with this series. They are great little additions and ramp up the emotional level a lot higher than the other books in the series. Verity is up to her usual “do-gooder” status in this one and drags Frankie along kicking and screaming as usual. I liked the fact the ghost in this one wasn’t from the historical time of Sugarland but was rather a more recent inductee to the ghost world. The story just comes down the tale of a boy and his dog and is wonderfully sweet. The only issue I had with this book is that Frankie was a little inconsistent as compared to book 4 and book 5 in the series. This story is in between those two but Frankie is closer to a book 2 Frankie not a book 4 Frankie.

Had me bawling 🤧💔
This is the first book of the series that had me crying and depressed afterwards. I’m glad it was just a short story bc I feel like I wouldn’t have been able to get through it if it was a full novel. Arguably, the Deader Homes and Gardens plot was much more twisted and brutal yet that one didn’t gut me like this one. I guess there is just something extra sad about children and animals ♥️
I def still recommend and the writing/narration is stellar as always. Just brace yourself for tears and be sure to keep tissues handy!

I Literally didn't stop listening to it once. I listened to it all the way through at 1 time because I couldn't stop. It was so beautiful, And I literally had tears in my eyes. I like the direction it is going in to use Verity's ghostly powers. I hope in the future she does more things like this kind of like the ghost whisper type of things

Not bad for what they are
once you accept that these are just short stories they're quite enjoyable.
I'd rate 3 and 1/2☆ considering they're just short stories. I didn't think much of the first 1 I listened to because it was so short - hadn't expected it to end so fast - and because I felt like I'd missed a lot of background. Now that I've accepted they're short stories I don't expect the details.
Recommend for if you are looking for something you can take a quick break from work with but still be able to perform a simple task at the same time
