Summary

Neve McIntosh reads an original novel featuring the Twelfth Doctor and Clara, as played by Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman.

Gabby Nichols is putting her son to bed when she hears her daughter cry out. ‘Mummy there’s a daddy longlegs in my room!’ Then the screaming starts...

Kevin Alperton is on his way to school when he is attacked by a mosquito. A big one. Then things get dangerous. But it isn’t the dead man cocooned inside a huge mass of web that worries the Doctor. It isn’t the swarming, mutated insects that make him nervous.

With the village cut off from the outside world, and the insects becoming more and more dangerous, the Doctor knows that unless he can decode the strange symbols engraved on an ancient stone circle, and unravel a mystery dating back to the Second World War, no one is safe.

Reading produced by Neil Gardner. Sound design by Simon Hunt. Executive producer: Michael Stevens.

Excellent

Have been listening to talking books since 1990 and have never listened to an entire book in one day before. This must indicate how gripping this one is
If you're a Doctor Who fan, this will be right up your street. Enjoy!

Ho Hum with nice touches.

Definitely improves as it goes on, as does the narration, but it's really nothing new.
It certainly moves at a fine pace, and, oddly, the secondary story featuring the Army men is frankly better than the main plot, but you'll come away with a 'been there, seen that' feeling.
3/5.

Creepy good read

This is a creepy good story. Well paced and at times chillingly compelling. It could easily be a third or early fourth doctor novel. It has the oppressive village under siege feeling of that era and there are great moments designed to draw a laugh of recognition from the classic fans.

On the downside the plot is uncannily close to the plot of Last of the Gaderine. Also an audio book. This is far better though.
