Summary

Charles Dickens remains -n200 years after his birth - arguably Britain’s most successful writer. Works such as Great Expectations and Oliver Twist have amused and inspired readers in all languages since their original publication in the nineteenth century, and have been adapted countless times for the stage and screen.

Dickens: History in an Hour covers all the major facts and events surrounding Dickens’s life; the poverty of his childhood, his experience in Warren’s Blacking Factory, the evolution of his novels, his tours around America and Europe and his sometimes scandalous private life. Great insight into the man behind legendry tales

What made the experience of listening to Dickens: History in an Hour the most enjoyable?

History in an hour as a concept is fantastic and a thrilling way to learn new details about a topic without the need to invest hours of your time. With this insight on the life of one the most well known authors of all time you'll be sure to invest some more of your time. Taking you on a mini journey through the life of dickens from start to end.

What other book might you compare Dickens: History in an Hour to, and why?

It would be obvious to compare the book to the other history in an hour books, however I think the best way to explain what this is like is to think about some of the great biographies, such as Ian Kershaw's- Hitler. By taking some of the epic biographies and squeezing them into a small one hour session you get the best of both worlds and thus this book.

What does Jonathan Keeble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The narrator used in these sessions has an incredible way of using his voice to make every session feel like an epic journey through historical events and lives.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, the great thing about History in an hour is that you can intend to finish in one sitting and very easily accomplish this.
