About this listen
Love history? Know your stuff with History in an Hour.
During the year 1066, England had three different kings and fought three huge battles in defence of the realm, including the bloody Battle of Hastings. The result was the Norman Conquest which defined England during the Middle Ages.
1066 in an Hour will guide you through the politics and personalities of the Norman invasion. It will help you understand why William the Conqueror was victorious and introduce you to the new king and subsequent ancestor to the Plantagenets and Tudors.

Ok but....
The way this is read is very off-putting, its fast and not easy to follow. There is little interest shown by the narrator and i found this made it harder to concentrate. Just my two pence worth though...

Really interesting, loved it
This book gives you the lowdown on 1066 in a concise, non waffling way. It might not suit everyone but it is an hour well spent. As a person who loves listening to documentaries I now feel I can put the events of this eventful year into chronological order, which may not have happened if I'd read a more detailed analysis. It has paved the way for me to delve into further reading of this period.

A lovely little book. Wonderful narration.
A quick and concise summary of the events of 1066 brimming with interesting details and fun facts. Easy, relaxing and short listen. Jonathan Keeble's performance is - as always - absolutely flawless. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I've never read the printed version

I guess the battles

Too many to tell
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes - we lost
Any additional comments?
It's give enough detail to be educational and not dull, its a lot easier to remember key figures and events in this presentation. The narrator gives an excellent performance, I've already listened to it 3 times while working.

History Fast!
A well structured, informative and exciting rendition of the major facts and battles in the build up to Hastings. Keeble is his usual magnificent self as orator and is able to immerse the listeners surprisingly deeply for such a short work. Would recommend for commuters, budding historyphiles or for those with a passing interest.

1066, the year of three kings...
1066: History in an Hour has really summed up one of Britain's most historic years.
In a Hour you could learn anything you may be asked about this year.
Events Learned:
5th January: King Edward the Confessor dies, without children.
6th January: Harold Godwinson becomes King of England.
And that was only the start, but instead of going to the shops and getting a book that may take you the rest of the day to read, just get this book, turn the sound up and sit down with a cup of tea in the comfort of your own home, and in a hour time you will know 1066 like the back of your hand.
I recommend this book to everyone who is interested in history and conquest.

Excellent
Short on time but not on content. An excellent introduction to 1066, and a great addition to the series.
