Summary

Jason Morgan hates his life.

Three years ago, a car accident landed him in a wheelchair. After two experimental surgeries, he still can’t walk. Now broke and living as a ward of the state, Jason wants nothing more than to walk again and to get out of this hellhole of a hospital.

Enter Games For Life, a gaming company that runs a massive VRMMORPG system. They invite Jason to test their groundbreaking pod technology. In their gaming world, destiny, time, and reality are not what they seem. There, he can even walk again! What could possibly go wrong?

Maybe he should have read the fine print on the contract a little more closely. He just wanted to build a cabin in the woods, but apparently the gods of this game had other plans for him...and they are not what he expected. As he explores this new world, he'll discover whether or not it can offer what he's been waiting for all his life. But adventure waits for no one, especially when it comes looking for you.

This book contains a fantasy harem, strong language, and adult situations.

I had to stop listening

I do not usually write reviews but I also don't usually stop a book. Good job this was in the Plus Catalogue otherwise it would have been a waste of money.

As some of the other review say, there is no challenge in the story, the main character gets wildly disproportionate rewards for doing nothing and is constantly told he is 'not like other players'. I guess he is not like other players..... he is not playing the game. I got 6 hours into the book and he was on his second or third day in the game world. So far he has just asks a couple of questions and has 'appreciated' all the well endowed women around him which is a horribly creepy listen.

Overall there is a strong 'and everybody clapped' and 'not like others' vibes.

Gary Sue type story

Half way through and this guys only made basic questions and got massive overpowered rewards for doing nothing. All telling, no showing. I'm quitting at this point.

Destiny's Champion

This was an okay book but in line with many books that I have listened to with similar storylines I actually found this one quite boring.

surprising change

I really enjoyed this book, a LitRPG story not focused on combat. It is an interesting story and I look forward to reading the next in the series.

very entertaining

this is not a stand alone story, there is a cliffhanger.

that aside it is a fun listen, the basic premise being guy in a full immersion mmorpg becoming op whilst putting together a party.

for people that wish to avoid general misogyny, the main protagonist is pitched as being very aware of the looks of the women he meets but not acting on it. since its written from his perspective this can get a very cringy. however there is a hint that further into the story there will be pay off for the cringe as the character develops in himself. hopefully.

overall quite well written, fun characters, fun concept, will definately be purchasing the second book

full of isekai/harem tropes

If you like isekai anime and you're down with the harem stuff, this is a decent free listen. With a few caveats.

The writer tends to overexplain, because he has thought out in detail how the VR and the game systems work, and wants you to know all about it. Be ready for a lot of exposition and detailed explanations.

You also have to like or not mind how beautiful women keep throwing themselves on the main character for little reason, and regularly being reminded how hot they are.

Every now and then there's a list of stats or skill descriptions, that definitely don't work as well in audiobook format as on paper. In text form you could skim them instead of waiting for the narrator to read everything out.

But that said, the narrator is wonderful. He clearly does his best with the hard parts, and elevates the good parts.

The ending has an original twist, which actually made me curious for the sequels! But not frankly enough to make me want to spend a credit on it, if the interesting ideas I come for are going to be padded with more of the same.

But if isekai harem is your genre, do give it a try. I know a lot of people are going to like it better than I did.

What an Amazing LitRPG

I love Lit RPGs as a whole, however, I find that they seem to keep to a similar pattern which works kind of because most games keep to a similar set of rules, however, the book has a nice splash of new features and ideas that took me by surprise. The world building was lovely, but not too heavy-handed, the game rules are well defined, again keeping it an excellent easy listen, until you get to the end, and what an ending twist, again another commonality that is shared between most book series maybe a little more in the litRPG world.
A great place to try out the lit RPG genre or a nice easy listens if you are a veteran.
My only issue is their an issue with the recording where the voice changes a few times, I listened both on mobile devices and website players to get the same problem it can make the parts where the voice changes a little hard to follow. However other than that, I am looking forward to seeing where this series takes me.

the story is not that insanely great, but the narrative is amazing. I would probably not read the book, but the narrative is really good.

Had a lot of potential

Usually when it comes to book like this I am all over it except the pacing is absolutely terrible. Most of the book takes place on the first day and then the rest of the book is half of the second day. During the time he gets (spoiler) seven companions, about three super magic items, a trade deal that will give him over 1 million gold in a year, and about 20 mile radius of land that was given to him by the king. Not only is that a tease is a harem heavily but the character refuses to do anything with them. And they are all practically demanding to be with him and his excuse is that he doesn’t know which one to pick what it’s of years all of them are willing. The character also have a nervous break down because he’s getting too much stuff and all he wants to do was make a cabin. If they would’ve gave The MC more of a spine I would’ve given them the story if five out of five. But the character is week for a character.

b@@bs everywhere

This story had a good start until books became the main thing on the mc's mind. not real relatable for the female audience. Also, he talked so much about taking things slow and enjoying life, then he buys all of his skills at high level instead of enjoying the leveling? I'm stopping where he bought a high level cooking skill then ordered two weeks of pre-made food lol. usually I'd just go with it, but the whole premise seems to be about enjoying the skill life, but he buys everything . it just fell flat for me.

Protagonist has faced zero challenges so far

More than half way through and the main character has faced zero challenges so far. Beautiful women and favor with the gods are falling into his lap. He's the main character. Let him do stuff! Boring. No plot. No adventure.

this story is such a brilliant idea. i struggle to write a review with out spoilers. but i can say this if you enjoy game, sci fi and fantasy and like me are tired of running in to books filled with detailed sex. then this might just be a book for you.

no story its all build up to nothing

this is not a book it's a few chapters of outline of a world that sounds good but it's missing the conflict and resolution part of any book this style. I have a feeling book 2 should be better but I'm not going to pay for that.

And again

Another author who believes we want the MC to be an incredibly whiny moron. Why? On to of that he is a crybaby complaining over every tiny that that goes not go his way. The Dialog between the mc and npc's is juvenile and it seems the Author is living out his adolescent fantasies in this novel.

Could have been great.

I liked a lot of things about this book. The harem aspect is something only a niche selection of males would enjoy. There are a lot of damsel’s in distress and conveniently no other men to help. I love fiction, but it needs to be somewhat plausible. That many women getting along and going after one man is something that I can’t see happening even in fiction. I’m a bit disappointed and will not be continuing onto the second book.
