About this listen
In a secret supernatural battle that's been raging for over a century, the stakes have just been raised – and they're not wooden anymore.
When Jamie Carpenter's mother is kidnapped by strange creatures, he finds himself dragged into Department 19, the government's most secret agency.
Fortunately for Jamie, Department 19 can provide the tools he needs to find his mother, and to kill the vampires who want him dead. But unfortunately for everyone, something much older is stirring, something even Department 19 can't stand up against…

Didn't want it to end!
I love a good vampire tale. Always have done ever since I was a kid.
This doesn't disappoint. I love the continuation of the Dracula story & particularly enjoyed the flashbacks to previous times.
Ok, it's probably aimed at teenagers but it certainly crosses the divide into being well written enough to be a decent read / listen for adults too. It's certainly violent enough. Mr Hill has just removed any swearing. That lessens the authenticity a touch but also means that my nearly 13 y o lad can either read or listen to it. So, fair do's.
I won't add any spoilers. I never do! If this is the type of genre you enjoy, give it a go. I for one am looking forward to Audible releasing book 2.
Jot Davies is a great narrator. Ok, his Geordie accent isn't the best, but I shan't hold that against him too much. I know it's a tricky one to get right!

Not Quite Sure What I Think!
Department Nineteen's plot-line is a nice change from the usual books about 'vampires' and the supernatural that are around these days. Romance is thin on the ground Will Hill's version of a supernatural order (although it is there), but then so is characterization and the cementing and growth of relationships. This is an adult length novel but is definitely aimed at teenage boys. Not sure it bridges the gap in quite the same way that a lot of the YA novels do these days. Its not horrendous as book but there is a lack of emotional depth.
The narrator does a good job but it's not particularly a voice that I wanted to listen to for this amount of time. I ended up switching to the print version because I wanted to get to the conclusion faster and get it done with.
The sequel isn't available on Audible as yet so you may want to consider that before investing in the franchise.
All in all the whole thing was fair.
