Summary

Only through blood can the deepest redemption be found....

He was born to ascend.

He was destined to lead.

He was never meant to fail.

Prophet Cain lies broken and defeated on the floor of his cell. A cell he has been thrown into by the one person who was supposed to stand by his side until the end. His flesh and blood, his only companion. His beloved twin brother.

Cain has sacrificed everything for his people. He left the safety and security of his life of study to infiltrate the infamous Hades Hangmen. He lived with them, rode with them, and then betrayed them. All in the name of a faith he can now feel slipping away from him. Like everything else he once held dear....

But then his isolation is broken. Another prisoner is brought to the cell next to his. A woman fighting her own demons and fears. A woman who Cain understands needs him, as he needs her. As the connection between them grows, so does Cain's resolve. He will right the wrongs he has done. He will atone for the evil acts carried out in his name. He will save the one he loves....

Even if the battle takes him to the gates of hell itself.

Contemporary dark romance. Contains explicit sexual situations, violence, sensitive and taboo subjects, offensive language, and mature topics. Recommended for age 18 years and up.

Great Listen!!

This series gets better and better with each book.

Athena Pappas & J.F. Harding did a great job narrating this emotional story.

Another one in the series that I couldn't stop listening to. I'll be sad when this series is finished.

Another amazingly dark and lovely story

I never had it in me to hate rider and this book proved I was right. We follow his path to redemption by his new found love (and, in fact his soulmate) side. His twin brother is definitely coo coo in the worst possible way and because of him there are some truly devastating moments. Prepare to be shocked by the many plot twists in the book. There is also some steam and dark moments but not as much as in the previous book. CHECK TW. My only complaint is that he could have made more plans for the future (like maybe going to medical school or something).
As always the narration was exceptional, the accents and different characters' speech was clear and just made the entire story better.

excellent narration

as has been throughout this series the narration has been exceptional but extra credit to JF Harding who has been truly outstanding. again this book comes with a shit tone of trigger warnings but if you are this far in the series you know what to expect by now but be warned, there's some extra trauma towards the end of this book you wont be expecting until it's upon you.
I wasn't sure how I was gonna feel about cain/riders story as I had very mixed emotions about him, especially after reading another review that said they felt he hadn't really atoned for his sins. however after finishing the book I disagree with this reviewer, as he was equally brainwashed by the elders and was tormented by what he believed to be true about his faith but ultimately knew to be wrong and the strength to stand up to such institutional ideology would take strength most would not for the sheer fear of the punishment. I think Bella's speech to the hang men in defence of him hits the nail on the head.
I'm really enjoying this series.

Full redeemed? Not quite

This has been my least favourite book in the series so far. I think it's mostly because I couldn't altogether get behind Rider's redemption arc. It was a cute story and it mattered to the overarching story, but...after everything he's done...I don't see if he's redeemed himself all the way in my eyes

Repetitive somewhat to previous instalments..

DThis was my least favourite even though it was one I was looking forward to. Mae and River open the series so it was new and enthralling. Ky and Lyla story was interesting because they were such opposites, him a male slug shagging every shore in sight; she an avid religious nut brainwashed by the cult. Then there was Flame and Maddie, totally heart breaking what these two endured yet managed to find love in one another.

This one was a mixture of Mae and River and Maddie and Flame so I couldn't shake the feeling of familiarity. Maybe it hit home because I read them consecutively over the past few days. Ryder is the hero hated by most due to what he'd done in the past and Bella is the sister thought to be dead. I loved her character, she fought fearlessly for their love and was fierce, even against the MC.

I'm over the child abuse 'sharings', women from the compound and MC men traumatised by their upbringing. I honestly found myself skim reading sections that were familiar to sections from the other instalments.

I'll read one more in the series and that will be the one touching race..Since it's something different. Tanner - the KKK golden boy and Adelita - daughter to a Mexican cartel boss, falling in love. I'm intrigued to see how that develops.

Thrilling and heart rending!

Profit Cain is starting to doubt his faith. His brother Judah has turned on him. The only real thing in his life is the girl in the next cell. With exciting new twists, this is an absolute must read. Brilliant!
