About this listen
A young man's mutilated body is found on top of the Agglestone.
It seems that he was involved in a human trafficking and prostitution gang. But why is DCI Sophie Allen keeping something back from her team? Is it linked to the extraordinary discovery of her own father's body at the bottom of a disused mineshaft, more than 40 years after he disappeared?
Deadly Crimes is the second in a new series of police detective thrillers featuring DCI Sophie Allen, head of the recently formed Violent Crime Unit in Dorset. An English county which includes a stunning section of the coastline, but whose beauty belies darkness beneath the surface.

Good listen
Good story that builds, twists and turns but still leaves questions unanswered. Enjoyable follow on book.

Who chooses these narrators ? This poor author
Michael Hambling tells a wonderful tale, I throughly enjoyed the story but this narrator is the worst I've ever heard. The use of Australian accents of most of the characters in the Hampshire area is an unusual choice but the attempt at a Scottish or Irish accent - your guess - is so bad it's funny, straight out of a French and Saunders comedy sketch.. I played a snatch of it to my partner who was aghast ! How do the narrators get chosen ? surely to God not by the author ?
Great books if you can take on board the information without allowing the narrator to absorb your whole attention
Would have rated 5* across the review with a good narrator

Another great story from this series. The author, characters and narrator were great as usual.

The dreadful narration
Story quite good but the narrator trying to do middle class English was excruciating and when not murdering the script was monotone but the story kept me going

Laughable dialogue
Not a bad story, but an awful delivery by the narrator. Many wrongly pronounced words, and the accents made me cringe 😬

the interactions between colleagues
I really enjoyed the way Sophie gives praise and encouragement to junior colleagues, unlike many other writers. narrator still v iffy but not quite as annias first book. do not like the way it's been left with Sophie possibly having done (the much deserved but illegal) torture scene. it will probably be used as a deep dark secret which will come back to haunt her in subsequent books. for this reason I won't be reading anymore. I truly dislike this kind of hook, something from the past just waiting to jump out and destroy a decent character. otherwise it would have been 5stars for the story.

The awful narration.
The boring drone if the narrator's voice. This ruined a good story and made it impossible to get past chapter 10,despite a valiant effort!

Narrator’s Accents
Good story spoilt by the narrator’s various accents. Completely distracting and annoying. Such a shame.

The narrator drove me mad
The narrator drove me mad. Please don’t use her again. What was that accent?? She obviously hadn’t read the bits beforehand and so a lot of it seemed disjointed which ruined the book for me. Sorry

Baffled
I decided to give this series another bash, despite being disappointed by the first book. Mistake. I can't decide whether the story was confusing or if the narrator was just so dreadful it was impossible to concentrate. Again, awful accents, mispronounced words, completely flat with barely any intonation- I could go on and on. The story seemed very 'cheesy, despite its fairly hard hitting content. Some parts which I assume were supposed to be tense and exciting were actually quite funny because of the way they were read. The accent of the Irish detective has to be heard to be believed, utterly ludicrous.
