Story
Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It's a pretty standard dried-up western town. There's a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There's a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there's new resident Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he's found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own). Stop at the one traffic light in town, and everything looks normal. Stay awhile, and learn the truth....

Summary
Sookie Stackhouse has one last adventure in store. Life has taken her from a waitress in Merlotte's Bar, Bon Temps, to part owner; from social outcast to the heart of her community; from a vampire's girlfriend to the wife of one of the most powerful vampires in the state. She has survived explosions, revolutions and attempts on her life. Sookie has endured betrayal, heartbreak and grief…and she has emerged a little stronger, and little wiser, every time. But with life comes new trials…
The question is, in the end: who will love, who will live, and who will be dead ever after?

Disappointing
Well, Sookie lives happy ever after. And, that, folks is the whole story and nothing but story. Charlaine Harris dialled this one in, it is a paper thin story and plot, where almost nothing of note happens, random characters come and go, the vamps who let's face it, are the whole reason for the series of books, go out like a damp squib. Really, very poor.

A little dull for a ending
I have listened to all of the sookie stackhouse books now and for the finale book just seemed a bit of a let down. As always johanna parker dose a great job with the narrating. But with a story line that wonders and at some points seems a little random its a lack luster ending for a great book series.

Truly an experience not to be missed!
Any additional comments?
Everything I read I remember, everything I hear I remember...
So as you can imagine I will consume a book and move on never to return, this series of books however are the only ones I have gone back through multiple times. This is because the characters are so intricately designed they become real, the story lines while based in fantasy from the off never fail to surprise and thoroughly delight. I have never had such an all round almost tactile experience from something that I've read to make me come back to them so often and with that first time read anticipation it's nuts because I remember every word already.
They are utterly hilarious, full of blood-pumping action and downright hot in equal measure with so many more facets that will have you also coming back time and again.
The books do not copy the T.V. Show plot line they are completely different the anchors for both being the familiarity of the main characters but both being superb in their own ways.
A definite BUY IT NOW! you certainly will not regret it.

stop all the hating
What's with all the hating? we all wanted Sookie to live happily ever after with Sam. Charlaine Harris did exactly as she always does, writes a great story with great characters where Sookie is the star and ends up fine in the end. This was a perfect example of the Sookieverse we have all come to love. Johanna Parker is the perfect Sookie and did a wonderful job. I could go on listening to Sookie stories for ever. Sad that this is the last full story.

Dead Boring Ever After
This was a poor finale to the Sookie Stackhouse series, which reached its peak at about book 3. It's a shame, as I was looking forward to an explosive and exciting ending to the series, packed with raunchy bits and loads of drama. Sadly, this was not to be, and this book limped home. Major characters ambled out of the plot far too early, never to be heard of again, and there was insufficient closure. Johanna Parker did a good job, as usual, it was just the basic plot that was lacking.

A real disappointment
I know everyone has their own opinions on how a story should end but after years of reading this series I feel very let down by the end. I like the fact that everyone's lives are tied up nicely but I feel the sookie and Sam part made a lot of the previous parts of the story pointless and left me feeling the same way as when I watched the last episode of How I Met Your Mother

Dissatisfied
Would you try another book written by Charlaine Harris or narrated by Johanna Parker?
I have read the whole of the series.
Any additional comments?
I felt really dissatisfied - she ended up with the nice bland man - so wrong when Bill was waiting for her. I suppose you are expected to believe that the Vamps will leave her alone when she marries Sam - don't talk such rot - they would still want to use her services and they will find a way around their agreement.
Very, very traumatic and heart aching but sadly a final ending I didn't believe -

Very poorly written
Would you try another book from Charlaine Harris and/or Johanna Parker?
Charlaine has lost her passion, this book was simply slapped together in a disinterested manner.
Has Dead Ever After turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, but I will be very hesitant to waste my money on CH again
Any additional comments?
If you have fallen in love with this series as I have, then do not read this book. I wish that I had read the reviews before hand, but alas Sookie has crashed and burnt.

Ends with a bang but still fizzles
I was basically just 'getting through' the series by this time, I was so glad the end was in sight. Sookie Stackhouse is a self important, bigoted character and I found it difficult to enjoy everything through her skewed sense of the world, at the same time I was sick of so many characters blaming her for their own faults or having to deal with the consequences of their actions. I know it's realistic, but it's frustrating and I'm not reading a series about a telepathic waitress' dealings with werewolves, vampires, witches, fairies and shape shifters for realism. Though this final volume ends with a bang (hardy har har), it feels like the relationships were thrown together (or pulled apart) at short notice to serve a different, unknown purpose of the author's. If you've persevered with the series you'll probably be content with how it's all wrapped up, but not what I'd call satisfied. This was the protein shake of stories, all the necessary ingredients/nutrients are there, but you're still left with wanting.

Did someone else write it?
Did someone else write it? Why was it so different? Was it rushed?
I am not a huge fan of the vampire genre but was attracted to this series because of the heroine's name. With a name like Sookie, I thought, there has to be some humour. It wasn't all funny but it did get me hooked regardless.
I loved the first books in the series, but like many others whose reviews I have read, I have been disappointed in the last two or three, especially the last one. All the fun and sparkle seemed to have disappeared. This last book was exceptionally dull comparatively with the most feebly developed characters taking the lead.
After thirteen books a reader/listener can't help but have an investment in the characters and I feel that the story lines of the main characters were rushed towards the end. Throughout the series we were shown one thing about the characters that didn't match up with the ending at all. I was left feeling empty and deflated because this series finished like a balloon letting out air slowly, complete with the whining noise which was Sookie.
The Southern Vampire Mysteries had hardly any vampires or vampire action in the last book, and the heroine finished up with the boring, brotherly shifter! It was almost incestuous for me. OK, I get it - but I wish the author had included a bit more "couple" development for Sam and Sookie so that it was satisfying and more believable. Also, with a vampire series one expects suspense and bad boy love so why have such a safe ending which translates into boring.
I am really trying not to question the author's plot as it is her concept not mine and I am not going to recommend anyone not read the book because if you're like me you will want to make up your own mind especially after reading all the others in the series. Personally, I have rarely felt this disappointed.
