Summary
Brought to you by Puffin.
From the creator of Percy Jackson, best-selling author Rick Riordan, comes a brand-new adventure, inspired by Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.
Ana Dakkar is a freshman at Harding-Pencroft Academy, a five-year high school that graduates the best marine scientists, naval warriors, navigators and underwater explorers in the world. Ana's parents died while on a scientific expedition two years ago, and the only family's she's got left is her older brother, Dev, also a student at HP. Ana's freshman year culminates with the class' weekend trial at sea, the details of which have been kept secret. She only hopes she has what it'll take to succeed. All her worries are blown out of the water when, on the bus ride to the ship, Ana and her schoolmates witness a terrible tragedy that will change the trajectory of their lives.
But wait, there's more. The professor accompanying them informs Ana that their rival school, Land Institute, and Harding-Pencroft have been fighting a cold war for a 150 years. But now the heat is on, and the freshman are in danger of becoming fish food. In a race against deadly enemies, Ana will make amazing friends and astounding discoveries about her heritage as she puts her leadership skills to the test for the first time.
Rick Riordan's trademark humour, fast-paced action and wide cast of characters are on full display in this undersea adventure.
Rick Riordan has now sold an incredible 60 million copies of his books worldwide.

Alright, if you can get past the narration
This irritated me enough to actually bother to leave a negative review.
I really love Jules Verne, so I assumed something that pays homage to 20000 Leagues Under the Sea could be an interesting take, but to be completely honest the best I can say about the book is that it is alright and within what's expected of Rick Riordan, but not even close to as good as his other books which focus on mythology. The narration is where the problem lies, I STRUGGLED to get through it, the actual style of the narration is obnoxious, I have heard Soneela Nankani in a few other books and she actually has a pleasant voice and tone, but in this it's a wreck, I'm obviously not the target audience for this kind of book anymore as I grow up with the first Riordan books but Jesus Christ on a bike, teenage me would have gauged her eyes out with this narration and I wasn't exactly picky. I tend to listen to audiobooks as I go about my day, but this is definitely something that I recommend stopping to read rather than waste a credit (or money) with the audiobook.

Get rid of the music
Good story. Enjoyable as always. Shame about the music, so unecessary and so irritating. It really spoiled the performance.

I'm abandoning ship due to narration
Despite a promising story line, I'm abandoning ship as i just can't cope with the narration. Despite being a Brit, I don't normally have problems listening to US narration - just LOVED all the different narrators of the Percy Jackson books. But unfortunately this narrator has - to a British ear - I very unusual American accent. She pronounces system as "systum" and concern as "concorn". The tone sounds really grating and whiny. On top of all this she overplays every sentence so there is no sense of dynamics. Every line is just super-dramatic as if you can't drop the adrenalin level at any point. I don't write many reviews and almost never write negative ones, so apologies. I am about to buy the kindle version and having looked into it, it's got lots of nice extra info such as introductions by the author, character and house lists etc, so it looks as if there's some added value in going down this route.

Love this
As with his other books i am a full grown adult (32) getting upset with him finishing a book rather than continuing with the story i love. What can i say i want more. No i need more. Another book or five might do. As always Rick has written a book that will captivate you young or old make you miss work (or school) just to finish it. I hope more underwater adventures come.

Well done Rick
Really good book again from Rick Riordan, very emotional and really sucks you into the world.
As ever Rick takes an older story and uses that as a base line to create a brilliant story from
Great narrator and I loved the music that really engaged you as much as the words
Really happy and would recommend this

Uncle Rick's version of Star Trek.
Curious to see where this series heads towards. As I have mentioned, Star Trek vibe. Nautilus/Enterprise and potential exploration of the depth where no man has ever been!
First time listening to an audiobook with background music. I m still on the fence about it. It:s awesome at parts but takes me out of the story sometimes.

Melancholy, slow and boring
I started listening. It got too mopey and boring and I gave up after a few chapters. Maybe it got better later on, but I didn't really enjoy Rick's attempt to write a melancholy female first person.

Fabulous start to a new series?
A great story, very cool tie in to the Jules Verne classics. My only criticism is the narrator constantly sounding panicked or forced but it doesn't detract too much.

My review of Daughter of the Deep
As usual, I loved the story that Rick has come up with. i love how he writes about the see and the peace of its water's, I love that he wrote about veganism and how good the food can be 🤤, I especially loved how he wrote from a young woman's point of view. being a girl is hard and I really appreciate how he did include this in the Daughter of the Deep. I could go on and on about how wonderful this book is, I really liked the different types of characters that where introduced. They are all inspections. I can't get over the Marry Berry thing, Loved that! What an amazing book!
I didn't enjoy the music in the background. I felt that it was unnecessary and took away from the experience of the story. The narrator was really good, I enjoyed listening to her.
It is very inspiring to me as a young woman and writer.
Thank you for this book, I will probably listen to it many times in the future ❤️📖
