Summary
The third book in the stunning fantasy series from Gail Z Martin. This novel follows the break out success of The Summoner and The Blood King.
Once Tris wins back the throne and destroys the Obsidian King, he realizes that the hard work is just beginning. Although Jared the Usurper held the throne for less than a year, his reign took a terrible toll on Margolan. Jared's iron-fisted rule displaced so many farmers and burned so many of the crops in retaliation that the country is in danger of famine.
But the greatest danger is Lord Curane, a powerful nobleman who supported Jared. Curane has retreated to his fortified holdings along with the blood mages and traitorous generals who supported Jared. War is inevitable, and Tris knows that Nargi and Trevath will be watching for an opportunity to invade should the battle go badly for him.

where's the book?
The first two books were a good read. The second two books could have been one book. This third book spent half of the time re-telling the first two books from a historical perspective. Truly, half the time.
The second half (part two of the two part download,) then prepared you for the fourth book. A prologue, but not a book. I felt ripped off. You are literally dropped off in the middle of the plot.
Over and over the author explains how a character feels about the same events in their life before the time of the first book.
To make it even worse, the great characters from the first book become weak and unable to think. Characters who rose up to face a despot king before, now can't deal with an obvious spy.
What happened? I can only imagine the editor was changed for these last two books.

Have loved all her work so far
I've read through all the chronicles of the necromancer so far, and am working my wait to the further adventures of Tris Drayke summoner. There is only one comment I'd like to make. I think that book 1 and 2 should have been made into one book, and the same with books 3 and 4. Even so, I've loved them all. This particular book was a bit low on action, but it was still high on drama and shouldn't be skipped in order to get to the "good stuff" in Margolan. I recommend this and all the series to anyone who might be on the fence.

Horrible Narration!!
The narration is the worst. Crossover of characters voices. Halting too much. No consistent flow.

Classic series
Classic series with a steady storyline that is nice to share in. Little predictable but most classics follow a set line.

Highly Recommend!
I had absolutely NO issues with finishing the entire series. Loved this as books (when I want the feel and smell of a real book in my hands) and loved the audio version just as much (for those times when my glaucoma won't cooperate). The story through out is intense with a lot of action and intrigue! HIGHLY recommend the series. Start with the Summoner, the books should be read in order.

A fun read!
I love the action and venture of this book. I would recommend it to any fantasy lovers who just want a light read with irredeemable bad guys, and good guys who are just doing their best to stay alive. The only thing I didn't like about this book was that it was a cliffhanger. I had to wait an entire month before my next audible credit came in before I could find out what happened to the main characters.
