About this listen
Lady Euphemia Marlington hasn't been free in 17 years - since she was captured by Corsairs and sold into a harem. Now the sultan is dead and Mia is back in London facing relentless newspapermen, an insatiably curious public, and her first Season. Worst of all is her ashamed father's ultimatum: marry a man of his choosing or live out her life in seclusion. No doubt her potential groom is a demented octogenarian. Fortunately, Mia is no longer a girl, but a clever woman with a secret - and a plan of her own....
Adam de Courtney's first two wives died under mysterious circumstances. Now there isn't a peer in England willing to let his daughter marry the dangerously handsome man the ton calls The Murderous Marquess. Nobody except Mia's father, the desperate Duke of Carlisle. Clearly Mia must resemble an aging matron, or worse. However, in need of an heir, Adam will use the arrangement to his advantage....
But when the two outcasts finally meet, assumptions will be replaced by surprises, deceit by desire-and a meeting of minds between two schemers may lead to a meeting of hearts - if the secrets of their pasts don't tear them apart....
Contains mature themes.

One of the best Regency stories I’ve listened to
Just love the unusual premise of this story with a slightly older couple marrying for convenience, one having been married disastrously twice before and the other spending her youth in a harem. Delightful characters and a lovely mix of romance and adventure. Well written and brilliantly well read. I am a huge fan of Heather Wilds narrations as she reads clearly and with perfect delivery of all the humorous bits. Now listened to this twice and love the next one in the series too.

Just wow! What a debut!
Having just read #1 and #2 of "Rebels of the Ton series", I decided to go back again, to where it all started.
This is #1 of the Outcast series and it was my first introduction to "pirates". I love this writer's style and this book is unusual because the hero is a widow of 37 known as the Murdering Marquess and the heroine is 32, having been kept in a Sultan's harem for 17 years.
The relationship which starts off as a marriage of convenience soon sizzles and and it is lovely to watch how the sultry Mia softens Adam, the man of ice.
There's also a great story which sets the scene for a great series and the subsequent spin-off series.
The narration is excellent!

brilliant story
First time listening to one of Minerva Spencer's stories and loved every second of it. I just couldn't sp listening but unfortunately I had to, but couldn't wait to get back to it each time. But I finished it in a day. Will definitely be listening to all her other books on Audio.
The narrator was good but her voice sounded a bit monotonous and a bit like a robot, but it won't stop me from listening to the others.
So on to the next one straight away.

Promising, but ultimately disappointing...
The start was good & it could've been a great book, however the heroine was sadly... a disappointment!
She was duplicitous, manipulative, selfish, self-absorbed & felt no way about using & exploiting others.
Some of it is understandable at the beginning of the story, but the fact that she doesn't really improve as the story progresses & that the author writes it as though it were simply part of her charm... is befuddling, to say the least!
That she knows he's shunned by society for being the Murderous Marquess & she almost cements his reputation, instead of asking for his help... even though by that point, she claims she loves him... Honestly, I really didn't like the heroine at all!
Adam is a sweetie pie & she really doesn't deserve him... at all!
A lot of the story doesn't really make any sense whatsoever...
She was abducted 17 years ago... the sultan was a paedophile with an apparently large harem... who she claims only likes 13 year old girls & hadn't bedded her for most of the 17 years she was in his harem... yet, somehow, she was also really high on the social rank in this harem... How?!?
& although, she was raped as a child by a paedophile & then abandoned by said paedo in his harem to wither away for 17 LONG YEARS... she somehow returns to London practically a nymphomaniac, who is also a sex expert... On what planet does that make ANY sense...?!?!
I like that she's not a blushing virgin, enjoys sex & knows what she likes sexually, but if that's the case... for the love of all that is merciful... do NOT give her such a tragic backstory, that in no way explains why she'd be that way!
Also, her secret becomes nonsensical when it's clear that she never really should've gone to London as her reason for escape had been with her on her journey...
All in all, a jumbled mess!
