As the story progressed, plot and sub-plot developed, the layers of deep hatred and manipulation started to shine through.
It is, in effect, a love story wrapped in a thriller. I'm not normally one who intentionally goes for a book like this, but it was thoroughly enjoyable.
I look forward to hearing more of Tami Hoag.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Despite the jaw dropping attitude to child abuse by the lead character I stuck with it and generally enjoyed the story. Bit too much romance for me and I would not have missed several hours being cut out.If you’ve listened to books by Tami Hoag before, how does this one compare?
Whilst I have not checked, I would imagine this is fairly early in Ms Hoag's foray into crime. More of a romance novel with family dynamics and southern 'manners' featuring heavily. Personally I prefer the more crime based books albeit there is always some romantic elements.Can't say I am often surprised at the outcome, but I still enjoy this type of book, not ,ucl thinking involved and great to have on whilst I do chores, cooking etc.
What about Joyce Bean’s performance did you like?
she is good with the male voices. Found it easy to distinguish between characters.Could you see Cry Wolf being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

I could not understand the weakness of the lead character. For someone who was seemingly a prosecuting Attourney and whose downfall was a child abuse case, she appeared to overlook events in her own life, pretending outwardly nothing happened. She was intolerant of the behaviour of a victim and appeared to have no understanding of the effect of abuse when the victim was grown.She was pathetically needy especially for the affection of her mother, a cold hearted vacuous woman all for appearances. I don't know of the American South is really like this, other reviews suggest it is, however, if it is, I am glad I don't live there. It's all about surface appearances, more snobbish than England was 100 years ago.
having said that, I almost felt the humidity and smelt the smell described as it was very well described.
The weakness of the lead is astounding.
