Summary

Cruel to Be Kind is the true story of Max, age six. He is fostered by Cathy while his mother is in hospital with complications from type 2 diabetes.

Fostering Max gets off to a bad start when his mother, Caz, complains and threatens Cathy even before Max has moved in. Cathy and her family are shocked when they first meet Max. But his social worker isn't the only one in denial; his whole family are, too.

Fantastic heart wrenching story.

Fantastically written as usual. Very thought provoking and really tugged at the heartstrings. Would highly recommend reading with a box of tissues.

Amazing!!

Oh my goodness the twists in this true story is so heartbreaking but Cathy has written it so well as she has done all her books. It must of been so hard to write it and revisit it. It really is a must listen book but you will need the tissues on hand.
I love DeNica Fairman Narrating she does such an amazing job. I really wish she did Casey Watson's books as the Narrator who does her books I can't get away with.
Well done Cathy for yet another incredible book! 😊

Emotional but fantastic

I have just finished listening to this. The second to last chapter made me cry. But it was great to hear how well Max is doing in the last chapter. Rest in Peace Kaz

Brilliant app.

I love this app, I have just 1 book a month costs me £7.99 and some books are almost £20. I listen to it when I’m alone at home or at night when I can’t sleep and it relaxes me greatly. I highly recommend this app it’s a brilliant way of reading with your eyes closed! Sallie x

Sad but wonderful mem5our

Such a sad, but beautifully told memoir of Cathy's fostering experience with Max.
Was very different to many others of Cathy's memoirs, of which I have read or listened to. Max's story included a touching relationship that developed with his family, a desperately sad twist but a truly lovely ending. Max getting back in contact with Cathy & her family years later which was a lovely & very different touching ending. Would thoroughly recommend reading or listening via audible.
