Summary

Tilly hates her stepfather, Dave. He abuses her mother, but she refuses to leave him. Frightened for her own safety, Tilly asks to go into foster care and is placed with Cathy.

Tilly arrives with a graze on her cheek, and Cathy becomes increasingly concerned by Dave’s behaviour, especially when she learns he has been showering Tilly with gifts.

While she’s busy looking after Tilly and trying to keep her safe, Cathy is also worried about her own daughter, Lucy. She has a very difficult decision to make that will affect the rest of her life, and Cathy hopes she makes the right choice.

disappointing ending

Another fascinating memoir from Cathy, however disappointed not to hear of what happened with Tilly at end end. It says it's followed up in her next book when Jackson comes but doesn't say the name of the book, so a little frustrating to get that far without Tilly's story coming to an end.

Another wonderful book from Cathy Glass

I loved this story. Lots of sad twists toward the end. I have read now all the books from Cathy Glass and I was never a reader before this. I only had read about 3 books in my lifetime before I got hooked on her books. It’s the way she tells the stories. I may have to go back and reread them. Lots of sleepless nights as the book keeps you turning the pages. Thank you for all the love she shows to all these children. Great book!

Another excellent story!

Cathy’s memoirs, as usual, pack an emotional punch and give a true and honest account of the turmoil of young lives affected by family disruption and distinction.

Not a cliffhanger, but not finished either

While we aren’t left hanging on tenterhooks at the end, we are not given the conclusion of the stories. In fact we’re told to se the next book for more on them. That was frustrating!

Interesting tale so far.

Fostering isn’t a bad thing

You know a child is having a bad time when they themselves to go into care. The writing and narrative are exceptional. The books flow from the beginning to the very end. And leave you wanting more.

Always sad but they're lucky to have Cathy

It's unreal the things that some people will do to a child; thankfully these kids have Cathy and her family.
