About this listen

Detective Jack Warr is haunted by the gruesome legacy of serial killer Rodney Middleton and reeling from a series of events that has left him deep in depression. Refusing the Met-offered counselling service, Jack instead finds solace instead through renewing a dangerous friendship with the artist and master forger, Adam Border.

When a body is discovered nailed to a giant cross in a framer's shop, Jack feels a connection to the case even though it is not in his jurisdiction. But is his involvement that of a detective or witness?©2025 Lynda La Plante (P)2025 Bonnier Books UK

Compelling listening

I could not stop listening to this new fifth book in the Jack Warr series, as the action is fast, furious and often very bloody! This could be a stand alone book, but hearing the back story of this flawed individual first helps. This time we hear more of Jack’s family as he recovers from his previous gruesome case (in Jack Warr 3 Pure Evil)and then he pursues detection his own way. This time he drifts into the shady art forgery world, with chances to be less than upright on the way. The ending has certainly set us up for another tale in the future.

Exceptional

I have now listened to over 30 LLP books starting with the Tennison series and without hesitation I can easily say that this is just exceptional!

A bit dull

I like Jack Warr series. It s a bit dull this time. Another thing that amazes me the amount of alcohol the heroes are drinking - a bottle of wine every day, then champagne, whisky etc.
I do not know about police but defined can not imagine how a doctor can function with such amount of alcohol daily.
Not bad, but not the best.
