About this listen
In this spellbinding novella, E.J. Stevens weaves a tale of murder, necromancy, and demonic possession that brings together characters from her Whitechapel Paranormal Society Victorian horror series and award-winning Ivy Granger Psychic Detective urban fantasy series on the fog-shrouded cobblestones of Craven Street.
The discovery of bricked-up skeletal remains at 36, Craven Street point to something more diabolical than an illegal anatomy school. The tool marks on the bones - arcane sigils of great power - indicate more than mere butchery, more than enlightened experimentation. The signs, omens, and portents support the crown's greatest fears. A great evil is being unleashed upon the gaslit streets of London, a blood-drenched shadow reaching skeletal fingers beyond the slums of Whitechapel.
Collecting human souls is a thankless job, nearly as tedious as acting as solicitor to the fae. But when the demon Forneus enters an opium den searching for men eager to trade their souls for the ill-smelling weed, he stumbles on a plot so devious and so heinous, he's jealous that he hadn't thought of it himself.
"We must stamp out this demonic plague for the sake of our queen, our country, and our immortal souls." (Cora Drummond, Whitechapel Paranormal Society)
"There's nothing like a maniacal plot to unleash hell on earth to break the boredom of immortality." (Forneus, Grand Marquis of Hell)

Lets take down Jack the Ripper!
Another great story from EJ Stevens! Cora and Flan are a great duo. I love how they compliment each other even as they stand at opposites in so many ways. Cora is prim and proper, driven to be more than a house cleaner and baby incubator. Flan is rough and tumble, a bit of a knife expert, and doesn’t mind ignoring societal norms for women. They’re both part of a special paranormal branch that fights demons and such, set in Victorian London. It’s the time of Jack and the Ripper, so go into this book expecting a few disturbing scenes.
To my great delight, Forneus puts in an appearance. He’s just as devilishly appealing as always. I loved his attitude towards the ‘Golden Retrievers of the demon world’. So adorable! Forneus is a bundle of danger, deceit, humor, and a soft, gooey core for a few chosen things and people.
All together, it was a worthy addition to Stevens’s interconnected series. I really look forward to seeing what she does next with these characters. 5/5 stars.
The Narration: Melanie A. Mason and Anthony Bowling narrated this story. Mason had the bulk of the work as most of the story is told through Cora’s point of view. I loved her various British accents. She nailed Cora perfectly. Bowling really brings Forneus to life, giving that entertaining character an extra dimension. On the technical side, things were pretty good. It was obvious but not annoying that the two narrators weren’t in the same sound booth during recording. The volume stayed the same throughout yet there was usually a slight pause when the narration switched between the two narrators. So perhaps just a touch of polishing needed there to make it seamless. 4.75/5 stars.

Atmospheric, but spoiled by 2-person narration
This story kept me entertained for a good 3 days during my daily commute. The storytelling is engaging and atmospheric, but I found the two-person narration (a woman doing most of the narration with a man doing the male character parts) not at all to my taste.

Entertaining story but I. Have a few reservations
I really enjoyed the world that the book is set in and the premise of the story, but I found a couple of things that irked me. One is the shoe Horning in of a "woke" character. How does someone in a novel set in victoriana England get to be classed as a they? It is a ridiculous premise that doesn't belong to the story at all.
My other niggle is with the accents. They are very up and down and made it difficult to concentrate some times. By the way, Wapping is pronounced as in swapping and Thames is pronounced as "tems" not
"tims". I know this sounds like I don't like the book but I really did enjoy it and will be looking for others in the series. I hope that the comments will be taken as constructive feedback rather than negative.

Brilliant Narration
This is a mixture of the wonderful Agent Carter and Supernatural. The fascinating characters are brought to life with amazing descriptive and intricate writting. This is a great introduction to a new series. I loved the proper British accents of the narrators.

Interesting new series
Well written but a bit too short to get into properly especially for audio. Intriguing plots and not enough time with the characters leaves it a bit anticlimactic by the end. Perhaps a longer book and a bit more time inbetween short chapters would help us bond with this story. Would still listen to more as narrators were both good.

Fantastic
This is a great little story about a group of ladies, all with psychic gifts, who form the Whitechapel Paranormal Society charged with dealing with the paranormal goings on in victorian London and it starts out with Cora being chased by demon posessed humans, and I was hooked from that moment.
My favourite character would be Forneus, Grand Marquis of Hell, who proves himself quite helpful to our heroic ladies, not without his own motives of course, he is a demon after all.
The narration is marvellous, the British accents were almost 100% perfect, the pronunciation of puma gives the game away though, all in all I was very impressed with both the narration and the story itself, my only disappointments being how short it is and that there are not yet any further books in the series.

Interesting story
An interesting story of Victorian styled paranormal investigations. I loved the way the female investigators are shown to not confirm to expected female behaviour and as such are reviled by the men of the police force that they are actually a part of. This is despite Cora and the other dealing with beings out of nightmares that the men cannot. Very enjoyable little novella with some gory scenes and a creepy atmosphere.. A nice introduction to Forneus from the "Ivy Granger" novels also.

Craven Street
I enjoyed the set up of the story for the series, but I felt like the story was rushed and short cuts taken that readers/listeners would have enjoyed and made the story much better. I however do look forward to more from the series. The narration was nice.
