Summary

When you get time off for bad behavior, romance is the last thing on your mind - but good old-fashioned lust is a whole different story....

Life undercover isn't exactly one big party - not when you're a DEA agent - but it sure beats a desk job. Except when you screw up big and someone has to go in and clean up after you. In that case, even paper-pushing sounds better than babysitting an erotic romance writer with as many enemies as there are euphemisms for "throbbing manhood".

I've been taking down drug dealers for so long, playing bodyguard to a woman named Shoshanna Lehump sounds like nothing more than a giant pain in my ass - and being partnered with the gorgeous egotistical jerk I never should have slept with in the first place just makes a bad situation even harder - especially when he pursues me as diligently as we're supposed to be chasing the bad guys.... What's a girl have to do to get a happy ending anyway?

Love the story, hate the narrator

Any additional comments?

I'll start by saying I LOVE this series and Robyn Peterman, but the narrator completely ruined the listening experience. For the first 2 books in this series, the narrators were both amazing (2 of my personal favorites) and both excellent at the snark Peterman is famous for giving us. They are also great at believable male voices. The first 2 narrators sound enough alike that it made for great continuity of all the supporting characters that are in all of the books in the series. In this book though, the narrator sounds COMPLETELY different (which is OK since it's being told from a different characters POV) but the main problems are she makes the male voices and the supporting character voices sound like idiotic cartoon characters and so different they are almost unrecognizable. It was so bad I had to return the book after just 2 chapters and get the written version. Again, I love this series and author, but I would suggest sticking to the written format for this one.

Not as good

It may have been that I didn’t like the performance and how she would put the emphasis on the wrong word in the sentence and she didn’t have the fun upbeat voice to go with the way the author writes, but this one seemed to drag for me. Took a lot longer than expected to finish. The narrator is okay, the author is great but I wasn’t in love with this one like I was the first two.

More sex less sustenance, less enjoyment

***excessive swearing and sexual conversation***

I listened to the other books of the series. The narrator, Hollis McCarthy, does not fit this novel. Characters from the previous novels appear in this as well. The voice changes for these characters, whom we came to enjoy, was disconcerting and detracts from the feel of them. I deducted one star for that.

This story is too long with the lack of action. There is considerable time with Candy and Luke playing the pedantic male and female roles. Candy wants sex but no commitment and Luke was commitment and sex. Candy and Luke are more kinky (kinky for a pg13 movie rating) than the other characters. This novel center around Shoshanna Lehump who wrote the graphic sex novels Size Matters. Much of the story includes sex, sexual toys, sexual conversation, characters wearing sex cloths, sizes of men penis instead of substance. The laughs are not as frequent and there are many double entendre.

The similarity of the story lines always includes law enforcement officers; How Hard Can It Be characters is a quirky female with a FBI officer; Size Matters is an undercover cop with a woman with trust issues; Cop a Feel male and female characters are deep undercover assassins, with the woman with trust issues. In each novel the women have a scene where they put an extra wiggle in their walk to the discomfort of the male character.

Maybe I should have not read these right after another. By the time I got to this book, which has fewer laughs, I was jaded about the similarities in the books. That feeling did effect cause a reduction in one star.

Candy choose this career to revenge, her sister’s death. She loves her job and now questions if that is enough for her. Luke has decided for her love, he is willing t
o get out. Candy and Luke give Shoshanna a lot of fodder for her books.

With characters from Size Matters and our new crew, they pack up to attend the screw con conference. It was a long car ride inside Candy’s mind, Luke’s fantasying about Candy and Shoshanna’s the sexual conversation. Oh, the name of the song Candy refers to is, Killing Me Softly by Roberta Flack.

Male character needs work

The narrator needs to work on the voice for male characters. Her interpretation mostly sounds as if the character is congested.

Reviews are misleading

I read several bad reviews after really enjoying the first two books. I think listening to the free 5 minute sample is important on this one. I loved the story and loved Hollie McCarthy as the main characters. The voices she did for secondary characters weren’t great but it wasn’t a problem. Worth the cost.

I love the way the narrator brought the characters to life for me. I really hope there will be more books in this series highly recommend this series to everyone who loves a great story full of badass women, sexy men and a ton of sassy attitude.

Laugh out loud good.

This story is funny, sexy and makes you fall in love with every character. Narration was excellent. Endings with a twist are always fun. Highly recommend this book.

disappointing

I'm not a fan of the narrator. I listen to her, rather than the story and that defeats the purpose for me.

I love Robyn Peterman but I can't finish this one. I'm disappointed because I love all of the characters in this series. Less than halfway through and I'm calling it quits.
