Summary
Number One International Best-Selling Series
It uses your DNA against you.
It knows no mercy, and feels no pain.
As the old world burns, only one truth remains.
IT. FOUND. US.
It's the middle of the night. The city's in total blackout. As the last cell tower fails, Lucy gets a desperate warning.
"Worse is coming."
In less than 24 hours, mass looting will begin. Panic will quickly follow. Then violence. Technology has failed across the globe, and a disastrous chain reaction has begun. But as the people of San Francisco sleep, they have no idea what's about to happen. Lucy must seize her chance to get ahead.
As the last bytes of data vanish into the ether, the old world will be lost. In its wake, billions of citizens will be stranded in defunct cities, unable to communicate, or coordinate. For the first time in millennia, our species will be truly vulnerable.
That's when the pandemic hits.
They called it D4. It's not an enemy you can fight. It's a process. We've never seen anything like it. And it's just the beginning…
A gripping dystopian pause-resister, with a whole new take on the pandemic genre.

Wow, what a marathon!
It’s no mean feat to grip a listener for 25 hours and when I first started Convulsive, I wasn’t sure the author was going to be able to hold me. After all, how interesting can a viral infection narrative be after the first few people have died? Especially at a time like this when people are dying every day, it’s sort of the last thing you want to read about in your fictional escape world. Ah, how shall I escape the depression of the C-19 pandemic? I know, I’ll spend 25 hours listening to the D4 pandemic!
Well… was I wrong!! I don’t want to leave any spoilers but let’s just say, by the end of the first book, I had no idea THAT was going to happen and OMG was I hooked! From that point forward, I didn’t take my headphones off.
What’s really interesting about this series is that it was written before Covid and you see all the same precautions put into effect to try to combat the virus, which demonstrates a very well-researched novel. But far more than that, the author has an incredible imagination for where to take a viral infection and he pushes it to its absolute limits while maintaining the plausibility required for sci-fi. The story twists and turns with each book highlighting an unexpected aspect of the D4 pandemic, leading you from one edge-of-the-seat scene to another as Lucy battles for survival.
Any author who can keep my attention that long deserves respect! Well played!

Don’t waste the credit
Could have been a good story if the protagonist wasn’t such a self righteous guilt ridden self loathing idiot. Every situation she got into where she got people killed led back to when her life partner was killed and she wasn’t. Over and over again. And FYI, the narrator should learn how to correctly pronounce big (and small) words. Try a professional next time.

Smart storyline and smart author
I really enjoyed listening to this story. I also really liked that each successive book didn’t flog you with the details of the previous one—he assumes you read it fairly recently. Listened to the first book for free on Scribd.
