Summary

The pulse-pounding return of Conan, the most iconic fantasy hero in popular culture

Conan the Barbarian, the world’s most famous fantasy hero, returns in an all-new novel tied directly to the famous works by his legendary creator, Robert E. Howard.

In this story, set early in his life, Conan has left his northern homeland to cut a bloody swath across the legendary Hyborian Age. A mercenary, a soldier, a thief, and a pirate, he faces conquering armies, malicious sorcerers, and monstrous creatures—against which he wields only the sword held in his powerful grasp.

The first new Conan novel in more than a decade, Blood of the Serpent leads directly into one of Robert E. Howard’s most famous sword-and-sorcery adventures, “Red Nails,” which as a bonus feature is included in this volume.

Good

I thought it was ok, I was hoping for more action, fights and Conan trouble but it was a bit light on danger.

This is Conan alright 🙂

Not a pastiche of Howard, style very different and a longer form, but by Crom it has his spirit! 🙂

The narrator has a wonderful Conan voice too, hope more of these turn up.

Includes Red Nails

And to be honest that is by far the best part of this book, great narration

Be aware, this doesn't include Red Nails!

The story itself was ok if you like long treks through the countryside with mostly animal attacks and shoehorned references to other Conan stories, but it wasn't really a Conan book, more like a clumsy caricature of Conan. The performance was so so, the voice used for Valeria was grating. Most disappointing, the audiobook version doesn't include Red Nails despite clearly saying it does.

Returned for a refund as I was already disappointed with the book, but thought I would at least get an audio version of Red Nails, but nope.
