About this listen

The bigger you become, the harder you fall.

Sebastian Saunders is a rising rock star. Jay Ruttman is a Premier League football player. Their year-long relationship is hot commodity. Hounded by the press and fans alike, the lovers struggle to keep their private lives private.

Flying high in the charts and having Jay by his side, Seb is finally living his dream. But Jay’s new, promising career is threatened when a horrific injury on the pitch has him side lined - not only in the game but also in his relationship with Seb.

Jay’s crippling self-destruction spirals out of control, tearing them apart. To move forward, both men must learn to leave their past behind - not so easy when it keeps coming back to haunt them.

Can their hard-fought relationship survive the ultimate test?

This is the concluding part to the District Line series where the full-time whistle could signal an end to their turbulent journey...or is it just the beginning?

Fantastic end to the series

I can't say enough about how much I love the District Line series, Come Back is a fantastic conclusion to Seb and Jay's story. So many romance books focus on the getting together part of a relationship so its refreshing to see an established couple living their lives and dealing with whatever comes their way.

These boys are certainly put through it in this book and it was tough to listen to in some parts, my heart was breaking for them and I really didn't know how it was going to unfold. From book 1 I have been invested in this relationship and totally rooting for them to get their HEA, it feels true and authentic. Both Jay and Seb are very likable characters and you can't help but want them to succeed.

Its a beautiful story and it was nice to get more from the side characters in this book.

Piers Ryman performs this book expertly, there’s a lot of emotion from all character and he conveys this so well. He really brings you on Seb and Jay’s journey, be prepared for all the feels!

You should also be prepared for a major book hangover after this series, I just want it to keep going.

Brilliant trilogy - well worth a listen.

I went into this series blind/cold whatever you want to call it, but this was a new author and narrator for me and it took me a while in the first book to get used to the narration, but once I did I was hooked, so three books later I am now officially in mourning as I’m really gonna miss them. Seb and Jay have been through so much to get to where they are and just when you think there isn’t anything else that can happen or throw them a curve ball, the events of book three happen. This book has angst, moments that will totally melt your heart and equally ones that will make your blood boil and make you wish you could reach into the book and throttle them. Jay’s career is taking off, and he’s still struggling with being an out pro footballer in a very masculine arena. Seb is of course, Seb, there is no other way to describe him. If you’ve listened to the other books you know he suffers from the ability to no keep his mouth shut when it’s needed, but not one of his actions or reaction comes from anything but a place of deep rooted love for his “champ”, Jay. These two struggle with becoming the successes they’re dreamed off along with juggling their relationship and keeping those around them happy.

Seb really does have some amazing one liners, and I regularly found myself laughing,, sniggering or snorting while listening, which is great, except when you’re listening while walking during the UK lockdown. Yeah, those poor people who’ve been near me must thing I am some kind of basket case, not that I care.

The narrator, really hit the emotions on the head with this, there was such care taken in bringing the characters to life and putting the emotions into them. It really does come through when you listen, and it can be so subtle, from the way his voice catches in the right way when Seb or Jay get emotional . It also translates through their actions and reactions to each other, breathing life into their love, making it palpable, ensuring it really comes through in the narration as you listen. Also the way the different accents switch and change from an East End native to the clipped tones of Seb's father, they are seamless as they blend and switch perfectly.

I know this is the end of the story, and I’m sad about it, so am hopeful we might, maybe get some more from these two as I feel there is more to say, mainly as I can’t imagine Seb shutting up for more than a few minutes at a time.

As it stands, a truly outstanding trilogy and one I will go back to and re-listen when I need a pick me up.

A satisfying rollercoaster ending to a great series!

Disaster befalls Jay’s premier league football (soccer) career just as Seb’s rock music career begins to take off. A moving hurt / comfort story to round off the stunning District Line series. I loved this as much as the previous books, the characters feel real, the plot resolutions are hard-earned, and the emotional rollercoaster kept me hooked the whole time. I finished this book feeling utterly satisfied! 🎧 Piers Ryman does such justice to the story - his accents, pacing, and emotional realism were superb.

we are back for a third time things are hard still

Did I get what I wanted? That would be the questions as I listened to each chapter unfurl and envision each scene as they played out. Would I say that I wanted more or expected more? That would be a soft maybe. The direction was more or less predictable but the layering of the events was a nice change. There was and is something about MM romances that make me almost stupidly walk-in to love and feel that it is so much the reality that I read in my romance stories or see on the big or little screen. I do know that they are the escape that I have come to realize is the world around us. District Line has been a series that took me away from the world and what we have going on in it today. I am hooked on these two and their fight to have that ever lasting, ever after, forever.

I loved Jay and Seb. I loved that Piers did a fantastic job. He carried his weight of giving me that something extra the narrator voice can and should add to the story. He was consistent throughout this read and the entire series.

Reasons I enjoyed this book:
Easy-to-read Entertaining Page-turner Realistic Wonderful characters

Such a rollercoaster!

Story: I am speechless. It took me a while to come down from the emotional high and be able to write anything! The emotions run high and the plot the author cooked up for the guys is amazing! All the feels are played out brilliantly and I could not get away from this story!
I'm gonna miss those guys a lot!

Narration: Wonderful job! Some of the heavier accents took some getting use to, but it all fits the story perfectly!

as good as the ebook

The story is always 4-5 stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me.

The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review.

PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!!

To my ratings:

5* - very very good
it's like an A+

4* - very good and will be often re-listening
it's like an A

3* - it's more then a one-time-listening.
it's like a B

Fantastic book

Loved this third book in this series. The story of Jay and Seb has been building over the last two book and comes to a conclusion. At some points I was on the edge as my nerves were getting frayed.
The ups and downs, the angst all got to me at times. But there is romance, tears, pain and heart ache, but the end made me happy.
The narration was great as it was in the previous 2 books. Well worth the read/listen.
