Story
I’ve always thought Kinsey was hot AF, but now that I’ve come to know him, he’s so much more than a super sexy silver fox. He’s kind and caring, and so damn courageous. He's also vulnerable and needy, and it lights me up like nothing else. I know I’m 20 years younger, but I want to take care of him. I want to be his protector, his strong man, his knight in shining armor. I want to be his Daddy.

Story
Payne. In search of: Room to rent. Must ignore the patheticness of a 40-year-old roommate. Preferably dirt cheap as funds are tight (nonexistent). There’s nothing sadder than moving back to my hometown newly divorced, homeless, and lost for what my next move is. When my little brother’s best friend offers me a place to stay in exchange for menial duties, I swallow my pride and jump at the offer. I need this. I also need Beau to wear a shirt. And ditch the gray sweatpants. And not leave his door ajar when he’s in compromising positions...

Story
I spent college worrying about responsibilities and earning my teaching degree, so before graduation and moving to Atlanta with my best friend, Ross, I figure I deserve a little fun. I’ve never been with an older man, but the guy at the bar grabs my attention and doesn’t let go…for multiple rounds, all night long. The next day, when Ross introduces me to his dad, the last thing I expect is for him to be my hookup from the night before, in town from Atlanta for his son’s graduation. The best thing would be to pretend it never happened, which is easier said than done.

Story
In my defense, I was left alone with a bottle of single-malt and a lifelong penchant for protecting my baby sister. Still, that's no excuse to send 10 drunk-texts on why her hasty marriage would be a mistake. If only I had just texted my sister. But nope. I accidentally sent the message to her, her groom, and his super hot wingman. I also used the phrase “super hot wingman”, so I’d like to die now.

It started out as a little fun. When there was a man in my building on a hookup app, why not message him? Only we didn’t meet. We just texted - one night after the other, after the other. GoodWithHisHands was the perfect escape from my life, where pressure was always on my shoulders: my father’s expectations, the worry about my sister, Maddy, getting sick again, and her ex-husband, Ryder Lynwood, suddenly back and volunteering at the same hospital as me. I like talking to him, the same way I enjoy chatting with GoodWithHisHands. They weren’t supposed to be the same person.

The job at Sunday Orchard was supposed to be temporary. A chance to gain some work experience, to have some fun. I had not expected to be welcomed into a family of gorgeous and weirdly efficient lumberjack-types, or to find purpose in the tiny Vermont town whose claim to fame seemed to be apple-based products and copious amounts of charm. And I most definitely hadn’t expected to fall for Knox Sunday, my grumpy, burly, fifteen-years-older, reluctant roommate, with his infuriating lectures, his hot-as-fire body, his superior attitude - I’ve never been one to put down roots.

"Look out for Zach, and don't hit on him." My brother's request sounds easy enough. Keep an eye out for his best friend on campus and keep my hands to myself. Easy. Even if Zach is a quintessential nerd, who I've always thought was cute, I don't have the time to think with my...stick. There's only one stick I should be focused on this year, and that's my hockey stick. My goal once I graduate is to get an NHL contract. The last thing I need is a distraction. On or off the ice. Only, keeping to the rules is harder than I thought it would be.

That's what I keep telling myself, but it doesn't make it any easier to sleep at night...or to drown out the words he kept repeating over and over the day we'd met: I just want to go home. That was eight long years ago and I'd only known him as Billy, a terrified 14-year-old I'd had to leave behind to save someone else. Summary
I’m done hiding who I am.
Pretending to be straight, to be the loving, devoted husband and successful ER doctor everyone wanted me to be, has been exhausting.
I numbed the pain any way I could, and in the end, it cost me everything. My job, my marriage, the relationship with my grown kids.
But now I’m in recovery, and for the first time, I’m living my true life as an out gay man.
I need to get my act together, to get healthy again. Benoni is my new personal trainer...20 years my junior. He makes my mouth water and certain other body parts react. Oh, and he’s also my son’s best friend.
I’m 47 years old. It’s time for a clean start. But where does Benoni fit in?
Clean Start at Forty-Seven is part one of a duology, an emotional MM romance with an age gap, first-time gay, loads of hurt/comfort, and the beginnings of a beautiful Daddy/boy relationship. It contains themes of opioid addiction and religious homophobia. Please check the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book.

Slow burn but emotional first book
Religious trauma and drug addiction are not simple topics to handle, and get it to a hfn/hea without making clichés must have been a challenge. Nora made it in the most perfect way.
I loved the books (I’ve also listened to the second when I write this).
In this book we get to know both main characters from their younger years and what made them who they are today. How they meet and slow and gentle fall for eachother.
The book is a HFN, and you don’t want to miss the second one.
And John is the king of emotions, fits perfectly for this book.

Fantastic Story & Narration🎧Gripping & Heartfelt!
Every once in a while you come across a book that not only captivates your attention, but it tugs your heartstrings like no other can. This is that book and it is one that will stick with me for a very long time. The story drew me right in and I could not pull myself away from it because I needed to know what happens next. Nora Phoenix is a gifted author with a wonderful writing style, her descriptive details bring you in to the story she created right alongside the characters, giving you an inside view of what they are seeing, thinking and feeling. The characters are realistic, easy to relate to, connect with and care about. My heart went out to Kinsey, having to live a lie his whole life, forced to hide his feelings and true self because of his family and religious upbringing. He settled and made the best life he could, found someone who shared his beliefs, got married and had children and a career that was fulfilling. Except he was never truly happy and it all catches up to him after he loses it all, forcing him to rethink his life and starting anew. It is a second chance for him to live the life he wanted to life, there are struggles along the way, but he finds friendship in the most unexpected way, in the gym with his personal trainer. Benoni, a personal trainer and fitness guru, is happy to have Kinsey Lindstrom as a client. Not only is he the best trainer for him, but he gets him and wants to work with him. Benoni may be best friends with Kinsey’s son, Jonathan, but he does not see him as just his best friend’s father, he sees much more. I loved how everything plays out in this book, it is a beautifully plotted story with plenty of drama, angst, heartfelt emotions and a slow burn romance. Watching Kinsey come into his own is heartwarming, hearing what he endured growing up is gut wrenching. The maturity and patience Benoni displays is amazing, that man has a heart of gold, a caring heart one that is just what Kinsey needs. I am looking forward to what happens next in the second part of the duology. Besides the two great lead characters, there are some great secondary/support characters. Nora Phoenix, thank you for this wonderful story, some of the subject matter is not easy, but you kept it real and you did a great job handling addiction and recovery and religious homophobia. That or any homophobia is unacceptable and has no place in my life, and it breaks my heart that people still think that way. We can only hope that one day people will open their minds and their heart and realize love is love.
🎧📚🎧 And for the wonderful narration, as always, John Solo does an amazing job bringing these characters to life, humanizing them, giving each their own distinct voice and personality, making it easy to follow along and tell who is how. He has a complete understanding of the characters he portrayed and takes each role, runs with it and makes it his own. He sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the characters’ emotions and projects them into his performance. This mega talented narrator and a versatile voice is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

Feels like lectures and speeches
Dialogues between characters feel forced and feels like lectures where the author is trying to teach readers about identity, age, sexuality and such. What makes it worse is those speeches, in the form of dialogue and inner monologue, feels repetitive.
The author seems to be trying to tap on something serious. But the wording, repetitiveness, and the depth of exploration made the book fail at both story and meaning.
Better off to read a lgbtq+ essay collection
Narration:
Narrator has a good voice, but the little to none distinction between characters, between dialogue and inner monologue makes it hard to follow. Whispering voice sounds quite refreshing and intimate in the beginning, but using that tone all the time makes it sound flat

Top notch Entertainment!
Nora Phoenix wrote an entertaining story about an ex-closeted ER doctor, his road to a fulfilling life. I find the way she took on the issue of homophobia by the horns and describes it in a romance novel. I have never read a Gay romance novel like this one before; she meticulously builds up his world, like it’s nobody’s business. I am elated that I could listen to John Solo tell this story; he nailed it! I recommend this book to seasoned and not so seasoned readers of gay romance novels. Love is Love. Always. ❤️💚🤎💙💜🧡💛

This story hits you differently
I have lived the so called religious way and the way it’s portrayed in this book, it touches you deeply and helps you realize it’s all someone else’s agenda and not what religion should be about. The love story, the taboo, the addiction and the twists in the plot keep you coming back for more. Luckily there is a second book to complete the story. Great job.

Starting Over
This story is wonderful and starting it knowing that there was a second part to the story made me able to relax and let the story unfold without wonderful how they would get where they needed to be. There is so much to unpack for Kinsey as he navigates his brand new world. He has much to overcome and it was interesting to see the mix of things that happened to him and things he did to himself. I like how this story doesn't let Kinsey make excuses for those choices but that he does takes person responsibility. On the other hand he sometimes takes on guilt that is misplaced. And this is where we get to see Benoni shine because he helps Kinsey begin to navigate his way not only to physical health but mental health as well.
I listened to the audio version and enjoyed it very much.
