Summary

Lands die.

The Living Light fades.

An Ancient Darkness awakens.

The Living Light that sustains Arlethia is dwindling.

An unknown, vicious enemy approaches in stealth from beyond the northern glaciers, a wasteland of ice that spans hundreds of miles. A clandestine brotherhood of assassins, held in check by the Light for millennia, seeks to break their maledictive shackles and unleash their bloodlust upon the world. Those that should stand with Arlethia clothe themselves in betrayal, desiring her secrets for themselves, leaving Arlethia to stand alone.

The rebirthing of lands ceased decades ago. The world of Valeira is dying. Only Arlethia, the Western Province of the Realm, remains untainted by the Ancient Dark's Influence. Reign, the young daughter of Arlethian Lord Thannuel Kerr, becomes entangled in a perilous web of deceit, greed, and assassination plots after witnessing something horrific - something that will destroy all she knows and loves. As threats culminate, she and her twin brother, Hedron, must battle demons on every side - both external and internal - in their efforts to save Arlethia from extinction, as they simultaneously reach for their own personal redemption. But they have become pariahs to their own people. There will be few that dare to stand with them in the dimming Light - and even fewer that will survive.

The world of Valeira cannot endure without Arlethia. And the Living Light is fading.

Ingenious

The veil is thinning; the living light diminishing and Arlethia, the Western Province is the only province of the Realm that remains to stand. Reign and Hedron have escaped to the far north and to Jaydon, who would hide and protect them until they have grown and are ready. But the time has now come for them both to be the people they were born to be. War has arrived; the darkness is closing in and time is running out. I will admit to not seeing the ending coming!

This first book of the Dying Lands Chronicle is a great fantasy and is difficult to put down once started. However, with NO BOOK 2 IN SIGHT, its disappointing, to say the least!

a little dispersed at times and boring at last.

overall it's a nice listen. doesn't break grounds of any kind, but at least it won't distill our world's politics in its prose.
which is definitely a welcome, for these are meant to help us escape in fantasy world, not taking planet earth problems along.
the main problem is the story is getting boring really fast when they deads are not dead, and you know the daughter which is the main character(captain marvel of a sort) is all roses and love. it all becomes pretty predictable from them.
oh man, sometimes one have to decide, you wrote for your kids or for our entertainment.

2 hours left review.
honestly my first ten chapters in or so review was a five stars then went down to three in the middle; to now end at 2. it's just that bad. boring uninteresting bland repetitive lack of any logics and sense.
it is amateurish writing for people that think that people should be nice and caring and other utter BS. How has any one printed that story is just beyond comprehension for me.

Faultless, Flawless, Epic can only be equalled by Sanderson

By far the best book I’ve listened to in years.

Not a single dull moment. I’m devastated that the next book isn’t available.

Kramer’s performance is absolutely superb once again.
