Summary

Centauri Bliss, book 1:

Quinn doesn't have much to his name but a broken-down old freighter; even keeping it fueled is a constant struggle on the edges of civilized space where jobs are scarce and honest ones non-existent.

With the death of the Emperor civilized space begins to dissolve into squabbling factions fighting for control and beautiful new passengers aboard Quinn's ship all bring their own load of problems and opportunities.

Centauri Honor, book 2:

The Centauri Bliss has a new home on the edges of civilized space, eking out a living even as in the core the Imperium devolves quickly towards a civil war. When a job goes bad Quinn must work to keep his family same as dangers mount, even as an ancient magical threat is unleashed.

While working to stay alive and to keep the ship flying the Centauri continues to try to find a balance, and truly begins to discover its power with the combined set of talents each brings.

Warning: This book has explicit sex, nudity, murder, and a lot of crime. There is a harem, a hot alien, a cheerful robot, a kick-ass lawyer, a xeno-archaeologist in a snazzy hat. It's space fantasy and space opera, with a healthy dose of magic, and hard science doesn't apply - and a galactic threat is rising.

Good Sci-Fi Ruined By Cringe Sex

Good Sci-Fi ruined by cringe sex scenes. It's unfortunate as the world building & story is rather good - except it constantly devolves into some dorks lame fetish fiction.

The sex scenes are UNRELENTING. They are repetitive, endless, cringe, and occur at every moment even when entirely inappropriate. It's forced in at every turn. It makes the characters unrelatable and 2D. It reads like an inexperienced desperate virgin's altogether far too detailed fantasy being forced upon the reader.

The sex scenes disrupt the plot in every chapter, often multiple times, forcing in bad descriptions of orgies and alien nipples.

Every otherwise normal conversation, even arguments between characters, is turned into sex while arguing.

It's tortuous, the author desperately needs an editor who will give him a reality check & tell him to stop being a weirdo.

I pity the narrator, his performance is professional & commendable.

Could have been so much better

Good basic story but spoilt by the LONG drawn out sex scenes that did nothing to support the story. shame really, pointless titillating for the sake of it. The actual real story though was good

Learn to write!

I managed one chapter before I lost the will to listen. The constant use of "...he said" "...she said" during every conversation is amateurish and irritating. It's a shame because the rest of the story seemed quite promising.

Gratuitous poligamy spoiled it for me

Pretty fun easy to listen to adventures but if I could have removed the totally gratuitous poligamy sub plot with really uninterestingly written sex scenes- I wouldn't have abandoned the second book. This author really undermined his talent with that element. I kept ploughing through book 1 because I liked the adventures but once it started getting plain sleezy I had to stop.
Narrator did an ok job- but with that many women to voice no wonder at some points we seemed to find ourselves with a masculine version of Helga from Alo Alo.

Good books

If you like Firefly then this is a good alternative to that. Good character build up. And story line.

I really enjoyed it

just how a space opera should be, fun funny and entertaining, at points it reminds you of firefly, but it really isn't trying to be. just a couple of fun stories

Reasons to rejoyce / despair

Rejoyce:
Space opera, seedy bars, space shios, snappy comments, magic.
Despair:
Firefly wannabe, no story (yet, into book two of writing this) typecast genders, old male sex fantasies.

Firefly with a naughty edge

The book immediately reminded me of the tv series "Firefly". The same type of people on the border of decent and criminal, daring plans and constantly on the run.
The book reads as a number of episodes loosely connected with an underlying theme.
I cannot wait for the next books in the series.

The good parts make it worth it.

The space opera action is good, and the story interesting. I enjoyed the book enough to want to find out what happens next and I will gladly pick up the next chapters when they come out. Be aware that this books contains several fairly graphic sex scenes, something I always find a little awkward to listen to - though the narrator did a good job with them. I had two negatives. The first is the harem male fantasy written into the book - all the female characters are very attractive and want to have sex with the main male character, and each-other - everything gets very Heinlein-esque. However, most of the female characters have at least as much depth as the male character, they are skilled, and they don't need constant rescuing (at least no more than the male character). So overall, the good far outweighed the bad and awkward for me.

Suffice to say I loved it

I have over 350 audiobooks under my belt. Only reason I purchased this book was my wish list is thin and I love Sci Fi, that said I really enjoyed the story, I found it fun! I have a new author to follow and the narrator was excellent, not a must listen but a definite “give it an honest shot”.

Where is the rest of the book ?

This story moved so fast , I thought parts were removed by the editor. It reads like an abridged audiobook , or if I tried to watch a favorite TV series on DVD while fast forwarding, and slowing down every 5 minutes to figure out how the plot was going .
I'm not sure if the editor was just acting as a living "spell check" or if the author was being lazy ( or was fighting " writer's block").
I really like the (Fireflysque + magic) universe that was created, but it was seriously lacking .
It feels like the author pitched an idea to a publisher and they said " ok, we love it ! we'll buy it if you can give us a finished product in two months." ( per book)?

I would love this series if it didn't seem like the author wasn't just writing it to pay his rent.

Skyler Grant, Please finish writing the "whole story" on your own schedule. Your publisher clearly doesn't give a "F" about you or what you're capable of.

This book could have been great.

Boring

I found myself unable to continue listening mainly because of how rushed and uneventful the story is. Not to mention that the characters develop very slowly, if at all.

Sudden weird femdom.

Really wanted to like these books. They started out pretty good. Then suddenly we have a character come in and start walking all over the main character. I mean, she comes in and is just "Oh, you are upset about your dead ex? Well I am going to destroy her memory." and main character just shrugs that off and keeps going. Then we have a situation of dividing up ship responsibilities. Same woman is put in charge of "family matters" and guy is in charge of the ship. She buys stuff the main character doesn't agree with, uses his money and ship money he is supposed to control. He confronts her and what happens? She basically rapes him and he forgets about it. This kind of thing happens over and over. I just find it hard to stay interested when main guy is a drooling idiot who will let women just walk all over him cause "boobies!"

The sex is too weird for me.

I'm stopping now because although I enjoy romance novels and some "harem" arrangement stories I've enjoyed, this reads more like a Mormon or Islamic marriage situation to me. I need comedy to enjoy reading about such arrangements, which isn't employed here

Really Enjoyed it.

The narrator gives some of the female characters voices that sound like men but I really enjoyed the story.
