About this listen

A man with nothing to lose, and a woman with everything to gain - and neither trusts the other an inch….

Count Anthony of Stratham almost drowned, and that's the second worst thing that happened to him this week. Now dragged into a courtroom battle with the owner of the ship that sank, the 28-year-old Count seizes his chance for a better life by blackmailing his adversary's daughter. All it takes is one invitation; all it takes is one night of passion.

But Nerissa isn't ready to be ruined, by the devilishly handsome count or anyone else, and she has more than enough tricks up her sleeve to take on the bankrupt lord. Will Count Anthony stick to his resolve to ruin and blackmail his archenemies daughter? Or will Nerissa discover that there is more than one way to survive a catastrophe with a count?

This is the seventh in a series of nine Ravishing Regencies. This is a steamy regency romance with a happily ever after, no cliffhangers, and part of a series that can be listened to in any order.

I don’t often listen to Regency Romances, so this is a review taking the story on its own merits, rather than compared with a genre.

It was an enjoyable steamy romance with plenty of emotional turmoil, anger, revenge and misunderstandings, all set in Jamaica.

It was beautifully read, the narrator moving through the story and the tangled emotions with a very listenable clarity and ease. She made the interior world of the characters in the story come alive vividly.

The lead, Nerissa, is an independent-minded woman pushing against the expectations of the day, and I particularly liked, again greatly helped by the narrator’s performance, the sense of authenticity in that characterisation.

If you’re looking for escapist fun, angst and passion set against a beautiful backdrop, then I fully recommend this audiobook!

This is a good creative romance story for those who love the Regency period. The author is good at creating believable characters and has a great imagination for a steamy story line. The narrator had an excellent voice and reads it very well.
