A very enjoyable book, especially for anyone who has read or has an interest in the books of Laura Ingalls Wilder. It was good to hear about the daily life of the pioneer woman.

Wonderful book.
This book was a beautiful insight into Caroline's hopes and fears as the family uprooted and travelled West. The language is like poetry that I want to listen to over and over. It fills in many of the questions an older reader would have about the practicalities of the journey. The insights that Caroline gives us to Mr Edwards at Christmas was particularly moving. It isn't in the style of the Little House Books but well worth the read.

Disappointing
I loved all of the Little House books as a child and can't wait to read them to my daughter when she is a little older. Therefore, I was excited to hear this version of Little House on the Prairie. As a mother myself now, I felt that I should be able to identify with Caroline Ingalls in the same way I identified with Laura when I was a little girl. However, the story does not seem to be about the Ma of the original books. Instead we are treated to the overly wordy and tedious inner monologue of a pessimistic stranger. Whilst some details of the life of a pioneer woman are interesting, the plot is incredibly slow and I am struggling to finish it. I don't have a problem with the tweaking of details to make it more historically accurate; I have read biographies of Laura Ingalls Wilder and am aware how she fictionalised her account. However, the graphic details around Caroline's pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding with Carrie are just too much and verge on disgusting. I think I may have to stop listening before the infamous sex scene towards the end of the book that other reviewers have mentioned. Again, it feels inappropriate.
