Summary

July arrives in Sequoia, bringing with it heat and long summer nights...and the Greenwood Fest. As the entire town prepares for an Earth friendly celebration of music and anti-drug messaging, Zion helps her parents settle into their new roles as residents of the sleepy tourist town. Now that everyone who is important to her is in Sequoia, Zion feels like things are finally coming together, until Tate gets a call from Los Angeles.

Going home is the last thing Tate wants to do, but with Zion by his side, he figures he’ll survive it, until there’s a murder in his parents’ retirement park.

And the last thing he planned to do when he went home was to solve another case, but that seems to be what he and Zion do best.

Yeah that was fun!

I mentioned this in another review that M. L. Hamilton is my new favourite author. I listened to the first five books in a week and just binged this story in two days. I'm just about to start listening to the next book as I love the characters. Kelley Hazen is fantastic as the narrator she is perfect. I really enjoy her voices as she brings the characters to life, and it sounds like she is having great fun reading the book series. When she was doing the voice of Tate's ex-wife it was fantastic, the energy and exuberance or the performance was wonderful. I really hope there are going to be more books in the future!

A brilliant cozy mystery compelling intriguing

I have so loved this series of books and cannot wait to get Cafe Mocha on audible, we get to know more of Zion's family and see a relationship grow with Tate, I think Zion is often the one in the lead to solve the mystery, I can't wait to see what her parents get up to next, narration is brilliant

Absolutely fantastic!!

Having committed to this series a long time ago, I dived into this audiobook experience with a lot of anticipation. And I loved it!! It completely lived up to every expectation I had and exceeded them too. But how does one express the magic of this series. Perhaps this conversation between the two protagonists best sums it up:

"If the FBI listened to our conversations, you know they'd think this was code for drug deals or something," [Zion] said.

Tate chuckled with her. " Of course they would. Our conversations are the stuff of madness."

"Yup. I regularly feel like I have gone down the rabbit hole, Tate."

"You and me both, Dreamgirl. You and me both."

Sequoia is literally filled with characters that are each amazingly quirky and unique. Despite the feeling of going "down the rabbit hole" there is just such a wonderful sense of community. Of course, there is a mystery to solve but it is heavy on the cozy bit, with oodles and oodles of the feel-good factor. The Zion-Tate team go above and beyond to get to the bottom of the case each and every time.

The only thing I do not like about this book is the fact it ends but author ML Hamilton and Kelley Hazen soften the blow with a teaser from the next book in the series. Thank goodness, because I am not ready to bid this series adieu.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
