Summary

Peter Robinson's psychological thriller Caedmon's Song follows two characters and their mysterious connection.

On a balmy June night, Kirsten, a young university student, strolls home through a silent, moonlit park. Suddenly her tranquil mood is shattered as she is viciously attacked.

When she awakes in hospital, she has no recollection of that brutal night. But then, slowly and painfully, details reveal themselves - dreams of two figures, one white and one black, hovering over her; wisps of a strange and haunting song; the unfamiliar texture of a rough and deadly hand....

In another part of England, Martha Browne arrives in Whitby, posing as an author doing research for a book. But her research is of a particularly macabre variety. Who is she hunting with such deadly determination? And why?

Unusual

I thought I would miss ÐCI Banks but think this book cleverly entered the head of a female survivor with horrific injuries. Unusual plot and a good read/listen. Well read by Kristin Atherton. Thank you Audible.

Not Banks but Brilliant!

We hadn’t realised Peter Robinson wrote novels other than Banks but this was great.
Without giving too much away, trademark twin plot lines gradually coming together and, although the reader can work out where it is going, there is always a sense of suspense about how it will actually conclude right up until the end.
Beautifully read and performed! My wife, Sally and I listened to it together and both really enjoyed it.

I had forgotten how bad this one was...

After PR's death I decided to revisit all of his Banks novels whilst awaiting the last one. That listened to I felt a tad bereft that I wouldn't hear any more so I decided to re listen to this one. By golly what a disappointment, you can now tell that it is 30 years old and that he is still really learning his trade. It just doesn't seem to work like his Banks books do and I found myself tuning out as he filled paragraph after paragraph with descriptive prose which had little bearing on the story. So pleased that his Banks works were a lot better.

Excellent story, well narrated

Really enjoyable with alternate chapters flashbacked and forward. Ordinarily, that could be off putting but in this story it works well.
