Summary
In the pulse-racing first installment of the On the Edge series, a criminal psychologist teams up with a former marine on a deadly wildland mission. Not even their hearts can stay out of harm’s way.
In the swamps of East Texas, alligators aren’t the only danger lurking in the shadows.
After a young woman is brutally attacked on a popular hiking trail, the evidence points to the notorious Black Cat Stalker. The town of Skull Hollow enlists Dr. Mia Frost to provide a psychological profile and assist in the investigation.
When another person goes missing, Mia partners with Easton Crew, former marine and current CEO of a tactical tracking company. Both Mia and Easton are stubborn, strong-willed, and independent, but neither can deny the smoldering attraction between them.
As professional lines blur, Easton starts to question Mia’s motives and worries she’s getting too close to the investigation. The mystery begins to unravel, but so does Mia’s mental health as the clues dredge up her own haunted past.
It soon becomes evident that things aren’t as they seem … and people aren’t always who they say they are.

Could've Been Better
Male narrator wonderful, female not so much. The story itself without the stupid romance stuff was fine. When the romance is thrown in with electricity, looks, blah blah blah, the story gets muddled. The main female character is supposed to be a smart psychologist, but that just isn't the case. She's whiny, panic-y, a too stupid too live character. Who wears a skirt and blouse to hike a trail?! NO ONE! Who takes a patient home and not to a hospital after being lost for 4 days?! NO ONE! I wouldn't have wasted a credit on this book so it's a good thing it was included in Kindle Unlimited.

I enjoyed this
This was a good story, easy to follow with great visual descriptions. I listened while I was doing my end-of-year house cleaning and it was perfect. suspense, romance, violence. It covered everything you want in a book and it was long so I didn't have to think about finding something else.

A must read
This book was amazing! Hardly ever do you have an author who uses character development to drive a story forward but this author does it! And she leaves you questioning till the very end your sanity as you read! I am so glad I read this with my best friend because I absolutely needed someone to bounce my theories off of! At moments I questioned everything I had theorized and then I would be pulled by that need to know feeling! What a wonderful book and I can’t wait to read more by this author!!

Excellent
Great work. This book kept my attention at the Dame for time the plot was ever changing, never guessing who the villain was. Was the main character the victim or the villain?

Audiobook
Attention holding story. Interesting main characters. The following is not in reference to the actual story, but a comment on the narration of the audiobook. While I enjoy good variation in character narration that makes distinguishing between who speaking quite obvious, I could have done without the use of a male and female narrator for this book. The female narrator would have sufficed and did the male character voice just fine. She gets 5 stars. I almost didn’t continue on with the book after it starting off with the male narrator. He sounded like a version of Will Shatner and an episode of Dragnet, distracting from the story. Thankfully, the narration seemed to somewhat improve as the book went on and was broken up by having a female voice.
