Summary

With so much confusion about the role of men in our society, it's no wonder so many parents and teachers are at a loss about how to bring up boys. Our culture has vilified masculinity, and as a result boys are suffering. Parents, teachers, and others involved in shaping the character of boys have many questions. In Bringing Up Boys, Dr. James Dobson, America's most trusted authority on family issues, tackles these questions and offers advice and encouragement based on a firm foundation of biblical principles. Bringing Up Boys is a must-hear book for parents, teachers, social workers, youth leaders, and counselors—anyone involved in the challenge of turning boys into good men.

More relevant in 2020 than you realize!

Common sense tells me how to bring up my son. But I have been validated by this book.
I also learned new things too.

An amazing book and if you have a son, you must get this!

The "Bigotry" mentioned by others, is from closed minded leftist brainwashed individuals who would book burn and wear black and not see that they've become what they claim to hate. They will not have safe children.

Written by a misogynist, homosexuality curer.

Thought this was going to be written by someone with intelligence and a scientific background, didn’t realise I was listening to a misogynist, homosexuality curer using selective, unbalanced ‘evidence’ to peddle his outdated views. Quit after the chapter on how many gays he’s ’cured’.

Interesting but bigoted

Although the author mentions some good points. Most of the book is from a religious Christian perspective. Which clearly is fundamentalist and discriminatory. Yes there are bad homosexuals, but then there are also bad christians too. The perspective seems narrow and really only applicable to a Christian perspective. If you want a deeper more heart cantered perspective look elsewhere.

easy to listen to and religious

a good read and some useful insights and certainly some very good points to take away for future if not just basic reminders of just how important children's upbringing is, and certainly the fatherly support needed to mould young boys lives for the better.

Like going back to the dark ages

Awful. Old fashioned. If your son is gay or you think he may be gay don’t read this book. Such old fashioned views which do not help your son embrace who they are.

awful. refund please.

seriously, how do I get a refund? this book was circulating approx 20 years ago and I remember flicking through it in Waterstones, thinking it was progressive. well that would have been my baby-brain playing tricks on me as this is the most archaic pile of crud ever. awful.

Disappointed

Terrible book. A throw back to draconian ideology. Not the book that I was hoping for.
